I just thought of a great use for this feature - remote rehearsing! I can have the track playing on my stereo in one room and carry the second iPad into another room and sing along! Cooking and rehearsing.....and other activities too....all at the same time. How convenient! Will it work with an iphone? If so you could tell people to download the app ($$$$ to you) and sing along from their seats in a bar or restaurant!
Beta version 2.10.0 feedback
Peter - Have just loaded the new build of beta version this evening and can confirm that the connectivity problem appears to have been fixed but will continue to monitor- well done. However I have detected that there is a significant latency problem (delay) between time coded lyrics being displayed on the client. This latency seems to get progressively worse as the song plays e.g at the end of a song 4.48 minutes long I am seeing approx a 3 second delay between when the lyrics appear on the host and when they appear on the client - thus making function unusable.
Also the time coded lyrics on the client in my opinion need to be more centralised
I didn't wait until the end of the song but I did notice latency as well.
I noticed thatnas well. Lyrics on main are centered but are in the lower part of second ipad
This latest version seems to honor the Centered Lyrics session but scrolling is now not working on the primary bandleaders StageTrax.
Also, the Clock operation is not properly mirrored. Clock set to Count Down mode instead of elapsed time. I changed clock mode and re-tested. Again main screen is not scrolling any longer?
Just to be clear on previous update regarding clock. My default mode is Countdown mode so that drummer knows when song is about to end. Even though primary Ipad shows for example -3:08 the slave iPad shows 0:00
Will the new features work on multiple ipads? I have only tried using it on one.
Peter further to my earlier post regarding latency between the host and client I have found that the problem seems to be worse with songs containing an offset in the time coded lyrics. The song I mentioned earlier where I am experiencing approx 3 second delay has got an 1000 onset in the lyrics. The song starts ok but the delay gets worse and worse! Songs I've played so far that don't contain an offset have only a slight (milli seconds) delay which seems to stay consistent during complete playback.
Thanks for the feedback so far. I am glad that the connection issues are now resolved.
Regarding the latency problem, I will investigate it in more detail. I don't think it is related to the playback offset. Both client and server handle it identical. It might be related though to the start point of a file. I am not sure what happens if you set the starting time to 5 seconds for example.
As we are working with a network connection, there will always be some latency, but it should stay below 100ms.
The server is currently only sending a start command to the clients. So it might be possible that there is a clocking difference between server and client. I will see if it is possible to send regular timing updates during the playback to keep them in sync.
Godsmo123 I just noticed that as the lyrics on the slave ipad scroll they don't come to the center of the screen like the master.
Can you post a screenshot? In my tests the current active line is always displayed in the center of the screen on server and client.
Godsmo123 Will it work with an iphone?
Not yet, but version 3 will be a universal app which will also run on an iPhone.
JDSMUSIC but scrolling is now not working on the primary bandleaders StageTrax.
Make sure to enable automatic scrolling in the settings.
JDSMUSIC lso, the Clock operation is not properly mirrored. Clock set to Count Down mode instead of elapsed time.
This is not implemented yet. I thought that for the slaves it will be sufficient to have a normal time display only. But I guess I will add this. Time display will be switchable and follow the setting a user has chosen on his iPad. That way everyone will have his own preferred setting.
Godsmo123 Will the new features work on multiple ipads?
Yes, I believe there is a limit of 5 devices set by Apple.
10-4 on Automatic scrolling setting, that was it on the primary iPad.
Thanks for the clock explanation and proposed fix. While you're at it, as the end of the song nears, the title blinks RED as usual on the primary but slaved does not.
I am not seeing any noticeable delays between lyrics scrolling between primary and master. Both of my iPads are ipad4 and ipad4air and both running latest OS.
New build 3846
So, I could not reproduce the out of sync playback issue. Both iOS9 and iOS10 clients are running perfectly in sync on my devices. Nevertheless I have added a sync message that will broadcast the current playback position of the host to all clients every 5 seconds. That should keep all devices synced.
Other changes:
- Highlighted line should now stay near the center of the screen
- Time display will use the current user setting to display elapsed or remaining time
- Progress bar will start flashing in the last 30 seconds of a song
The good news is that I have not seen any crash reports with the last build!
Hi Peter the latency issue is now a lot better but not perfect - however I think users can live with it! Is there any way of adjusting the text size on the client IPAD. Adjusting the text size on the host has no affect on the client which seems to be a fixed size. It might be a nice feature to have it adjustable - what do you think?
I thought of a new use for the server/client feature. I usually stand and perfrom with a guitar. I have wanted to sometimes take a keyboard along and play it on certain songs, but that meant moving the master ipad and it was cumbersome. Now I can just leave the client ipad on the keyboard music stand and move over to the piano whenever I want knowing I will have the lyrics and chords in realtime.
RichieC Is there any way of adjusting the text size on the client IPAD. Adjusting the text size on the host has no affect on the client which seems to be a fixed size. It might be a nice feature to have it adjustable - what do you think?
The font size is adjustable on the master. But the font size is only sent to the client when you select a song. So if you change the font size for the current song, you will need to select another song and reselect the original song for the font size to be sent to the clients.
If you use automatic scrolling without timestamped lyrics, the font size has a direct impact on the scrolling behavior. Therefore I decided to not allow font size changes on the client.
I had a good rehearsal this morning using the server/client and everything looks good and is behaving very nicely. I love being able to move locations and not be stuck in front of the server ipad. I can see myself finally getting a wireless headset and having a couple of ipads on stands ar different locations onstage just so I can vary the look of the performance a bit - watching a performer always in one position can get dull after a while. Thanks for making this available! Now you need to market it.
Tested latest beta for Clock fix and Blinking at end of song. Works as expected. One other minor glitch. When StageTrax is running it overrides the display timeout/autolock. The slave session is not overriding, so after a break or 2min (if that was the selected timeout/autolock), then it would be necessary for the user to unlock the display.
Just tested with iRig BlueBoard with the four buttons assigned as follows:
A=Selection Up -- worked, Next Song footer changed correctly
B=Selection Down -- worked. Next Song fotter changed correctly
C=Scroll Speed Up - DID NOT WORK, NO EFFECT ON SLAVED IPAD
D=Scroll Speed Down -- DID NOT WORK, NO EFFECT ON SLAVED IPAD
On the slaved session, the
The display timeout needs to be disabled in the settings. So if you do this on the slave iPad, it will not lock the screen.
The scroll speed setting is like the font size setting only transferred when you switch to a new song. I don't expect anyone to change these settings during a live gig.
Yes, I figured as much. I'll just set to Never on slave IPAD.
I DO sometimes adjust scroll speed particularly on a new track. Will just have to discipline myself to get it properly adjusted before trying Live.
We had exchanged emails on some features, will any of them be rolled into this release? Or shall I document them in the Features section?
