ST4 Refuses To Transmit Audio To My Interface

So I have been using Camelot Pro for a long time until I recently discovered this app ST4! It’s an amazing app and love the features BUT I cannot get any audio from the app to my audio interface which is the Track Rig by Loop Community. It’s a simple plug and play interface with 8 assignable outputs. I’m using an M4 iPad Pro 13 inch using the latest OS 26.4. Here’s the weird thing, ST4 sees my interface and I am able to assign the output buses in ST4 to the different outputs on Track Rig. Yet ST4 will not transmit audio from the app to the interface.

I’ve checked the sample rates to make sure they match, changed cables, rechecked connections and still no luck. When I switch back to Camelot Pro or use any of my keyboard apps from Korg, Moog, etc, all is well with the interface. ST4 is the only app that won’t transmit audio to my interface. Oh yes, I also made sure all group mutes were off in ST4 too…haha.

Help please. I would love to move over to this app if possible.

This feels likes something very simple has been overlooked, so let's cover the absolute basics first.

Make sure you have assigned tracks to a Bus and Bus to interface inputs as per https://stagetraxx.com/docs/v4/mixer/

Also, if you unplug the interface, are you able to get ST4 to just play audio out of the speakers?

Hey Anthony, thank you for replying. I went through the basic steps and everything is assigned correctly to the buses as well as the buses assigned to the correct outputs. All the buses see the correct outputs on the Track Rig but it still will not transmit audio.

Audio will come out of the iPad speakers when disconnected from the Track Rig. I also have a second audio interface,the MOTU M4 and ST4 works as expected with that interface. But that one only has 4 outs and I need 8.

When I go back to the Track Rig, ST4 refuses to transmit the audio. I am at a loss and this is a major bummer.

Do you have another Mac based audio app such as a DAW? Wondering if the interface is not fully Core Audio compliant?
Any chance you can test it with another app (other than Camelot...)?

I took a look at the Loop Community web site and I get the feeling the interface is meant to be used with their own software (Prime). Nowhere does it say (that I could see anyway) that the Tarck Rig is Core Audio Compliant.

Hey Mark,

Thanks for replying. Track Rig is Core Audio compliant. But on Loop Community's website, they are definitely trying to promote with their Prime app. Before that was created, they were pushing it with Ableton Live. It was made to be simple plug and play for those non-techie people. But on my Mac, I can run Ableton Live, Logic Pro and even Reason through it with no audio issues. That's why it is so mysterious to me that this one app (ST4) won't work.

On my iPad Pro Logic Pro runs, Camelot Pro runs, synth apps from Korg, Moog, Reason, PianoTeq, etc all run just fine with no audio issues. But that's not the case with ST4. I'm totally baffled. You would think it has to be something simple like I left one of the group mutes on or that the sounds weren't routed to the correct output but that's not the case. ST4 sees the interface and I am able to assign ST4's output buses to the correct output channels on the Track Rig. It just refuses to send audio through. Thanks again for trying to help me out.

Hey Peter, the log files you are talking about, is this found in the settings in the ST4 app or elsewhere? I will be sending it from the iPad Pro as I don't have the desktop version.

I had a similar issue with a previous app I used called 'Songs' on my iPad. That wouldn't see my X32 Rack of all things. Turns out it was something to do with the identifier string that the iPad presents to the app.
BTW, does the Track Rig fail to work with ST on both the iPad and the Mac? Have you tried connecting from ST on the Mac?

Unfortunately I cannot test ST4 on my MacBook Pro because it is too old to accept the download. It’s a 2015 🤣😜 and still running strong (mostly). Everything else I have is running on Apple Silicon.

I don't see any errors in your logs, but I can see that you have enabled the multi route option. You don't need that. See here what it does: https://stagetraxx.com/docs/v4/settings/audio/audio-settings/#multi-route-audio

Disable it. I think it somehow confuses your audio interface.

Hey Peter,

Thank you taking the time to look over the logs. I have band practice this evening and will try turning that option off and let you know if that was the “mystery” setting for my interface.

You are amazing! That was it! As soon as I disabled the multi route option, ST4 began transmitting audio to the Track Rig!! Woo hoo!

To me, “multi route option” sounds like an option that needs to be turned on in order for multiple outputs to work. So that was my fault in not understanding what multi route actually does. To be honest, after reading the link you sent me, it was still a little confusing but I think I get it. If HDMI steals the audio from ST4 when you want it going to an audio interface, you then turn on the multi route option to hopefully get audio to play through the interface while still being plugged to the HDMI.

Well, I won’t soon forget that switch! Haha. Again, thank you for your help Peter and thank you to the others who tried to help me solve this problem as well!

Yes, the name is a bit misleading. But that's the standard name Apple uses for that feature and other music apps also make use of this name, so I decided to stick with it.
