Stage Traxx 4 - Widi Master - NDSP Quad Cortex

So I’m a new user to Stage Traxx, I’ve previously used Easy Performer. I loved the way on Scott Uhl’s video how the app listened to his HX Stomp and he just pressed the buttons at the right time through the song and it learnt. However I’ve been trying all day with my Quad Cortex to do the same and it just won’t work. If I manually type the midi lines it send the CC changes successfully but the whole point I bought the app was for the easy learning function. Has anyone got it working on an iPad with Widi Master and a Quad Cortex? I’ve tried 3 different iPads all completely up to date and all just work with the manual midi syntax way and not by button press on the device. Any ideas?

From what you describe, while you appear to have MIDI information flowing successfully from ST4 to Quad Cortex, it sounds like you simply don't have MIDI information flowing from the Quad Cortex back to the iPad.

Install a 3rd party MIDI monitoring app (MIDISpy is what I use) to monitor the incoming MIDI signals on your iPad. That will confirm whether you have a MIDI routing issue (either your QC not sending MIDI when you press pedals, or a MIDI connectivity/routing issue between QC and iPad).

Not all devices send midi when you press a pedal. So make sure your Quad Cortex is setup to send midi data when you do something on it.

Hiya. Apparently you have to set up Patch based send settings which I've done that but still not working.

Dabearworld are you in stomp, scene or hybrid mode as midi is only sent from the footswitches when in those modes?

Quad Cortex does not work like HX Stomp in this regard. Like Peter said, no midi messages are sent when you press buttons on QC.

To do what you describe, you'll need some other device programmed to send the midi messages that your QC will respond to (just for programming). This can be a device like a Morning Star controller or an app, like Midi Studio or Midi Designer Pro X on your iPad.

Make sure you're familiar with the MIDI capabilities of the QC. For instance to engage Scene A: CC#43

Configure the app or device to send CC messages for each of the Scene changes, you may also wish to start each song by switching to Gig View and Scene Mode. Other techniques might be to switch to Stomp Mode, Press Button B, then switch back to Scene Mode. All of these things are possible to do rapidly and consistently.

Once you've programmed the various options, use the app/device to send the midi messages to ST4 in Lyrics mode while it listens for incoming MIDI. You'll see the messages written out in the lyrics editor as text.

Once that's done, connect ST4 to QC MIDI (via USB for instance) and run the playback to test.
