Migration from to 3 to 4

StageTraxx 3 to 4 migration 4
Need some help. I have a iPad that has 145 GB of storage available. I create a Full backup in Stagetraxx 3 and I can see the file in the files menu. I go to StageTraxx 4 and hit the 3 dots go to Backup hit Restore Backup and I see the file with a .st3 designation. I hit the file and it says importing legacy backup up. The file is loading up to 28% and everytime i get a Backup Restore Failed box. It says the file is damaged or incomplete.The file size is 13.4 gigabytes.
I have saved the file to iCloud, to the internal storage of my ipad, and to a external hard drive and get the same Backup Restore Failed message. I know the memory is there. I have tried a older version of a backup I had and it still doesn't work. Some advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like the backup file is corrupted. Create a new backup, make sure it finishes, and try restoring it again.

Definitely a damaged backup file. The full backup should have roughly the same size that all your audio files in ST3 need. Check the file size after creating the backup.

Thanks, I create the backup. The file size is 13.42 Gb. My ipad says Stagetraxx is using 12.84 Gb of storage. Is that what you mean? I have done this over and over and still get the same result.

That looks OK. Please send me your log files via Settings > Create Support Email. I might see the detailed reason for the failed import.

Is all your operating systems and 3 & 4 versions up to date?

Yes. 26.3. It will let me push the database only. Now I'm concerned all of my previous backups are no good. And afraid to load one🙁 I deleted the app and reloaded it. Still downloads to 28% and then I get the Backup error.

What about trying to load the database only in to new ST4 , does that work?
Yes it won’t have the the files but does that import all data.
I know it’s a horrible feeling to be in this situation, then manually transferring files Peter might have a solution .

shoester what if you go in to your ST3 folder and copy and paste in to ST4 file folder all the files you require, and leave out any that don’t belong ,
Hopefully ST4 will run them as expected.
If everything works out than make a full backup on ST4 and save it somewhere safe.

Where is a Stagetraxx 4 folder.? Will that bring over my Midi and lyrics?

I wouldn't advise taking that approach as ST4 folder structure is different to ST3. You can't just copy and paste the folder structure of ST3 into ST4 without then performing additional tasks.

Much better (and supported and recommended method) will be to do a working full backup of ST3 and restore into ST4.
It should not be a problem to work out why your ST3 full backup is not restoring properly as there is usually only a few simple reasons:

Not enough free space on the device where you are performing ST3 Full Backup resulting in an incomplete/corrupted ST3 Backup file - you need at least the same amount of free space for the backup file, as ST3 currently takes up (e.g. if your ST3 install taked 10GB, you need at least 10GB free space)
DO NOT backup to a cloud drive/app. Only backup to local storage, or an attached USB drive.
Ensure your copying of the ST3 Backup file to the ST4 device (if different) isn't corrupting it (avoid using cloud apps)
When restoring your ST3 backup file into ST4, you need as much free space as the actual ST3 backup file (i.e. if your ST3 Full Backup file is 10GB, you need at least 10GB free space for ST4 to restore that file).
DO NOT enable iCloud Sync on your ST4 device before you restore the Full Backup. Only enable this after you have successfully restore the backup file into ST4 and verified it is all there.

There usually isn't anything outside of the above that causes the Full Backup from ST3 to not restore into ST4.
I literally copy and paste the above into posts every week and the problem is always in one of those stages.

Sent the files. If it means anything, every time I create a backup the progress goes to 65%...stops...waits a few seconds and jumps to 100%.

Did you send me logs from ST3? Please add a meaningful comment to the email. I receive many support emails every day without any text in it and I have no idea to what that mail is related to without a comment.

So if you sent the ST3 logs, they are not helpful. I need the logs from ST4 where the error is visible.

OK, I have now received the correct logs. But unfortunately it does not contain more details. It is simply not possible to unzip that file. The zip utility fails and does not log any more details. So the only assumption I can make is that the file is somehow damaged.

Hello Peter,
Does this mean all of my previously backed up Stagetraxx 3 files are corrupted somehow? I have never actually tried the backup restore in StageTraxx 3. I did send you a log file from my StageTraxx 3. I really don't know what to do. I will continue to use StageTraxx 3 and hope I don't need to use the restore.

The ST3 log is clean. No errors during backup creation.

If you have a second device, try to restore the backup on the second device.
