Riff That doesn't work because sometimes I'll have several different guitar tracks all going to the same bus and I wouldn't want them all named the same.
I see your point , but what about this to keep it all simple and fast.
The audio track verses bus nameing in mixer.
As you load in multiple multitrack files, to audio tracks , the tracks all get different colours and are arranged and named automatically with each track assigned to bus 1 for easy stereo output , this is very fast and no fuss , if you are running in multitrack out if you assign any track to a different bus the colour of that track is replicated and the name of that first assigned track is replicated , if you then assign more tracks to that same bus the name of the first assigned track is still retained but you have a pop up option in the bus name indicator to rename the bus if needed, so if you named one audio track GTR Solo , second track Rthm GTR , in the bus name area you long press on it and change the name to GUITARS , this long press opens a menu of all the names that you are needing for easy choice so if you have your drum kit seperated on different tracks ie, kick , snare, hi hat, toms , shaker, tamb, kowbell, and they are all summed in to one bus , then the first selection to that bus becomes the bus name but all you do is long press on the bus name box and choose DRUMS.
This then has some order and an easy flow to follow,
To import all the files i would create a rule in the track naming so it places the audio files in to a track exactly where you want them to be ie, 500 miles - 1 Kick, 500 miles - 2 Snare, 500 miles - 3 Hi hat, 500 miles - 4 Toms, etc,
Now your song immediately knows its name and in which track which instrument is required in , this creates a fast workflow.
So if you use 16 tracks all tracks get populated in a speciffic order, the song gets its name the tracks are all set a different colour which you can change if you want all drums to be blue and always go to bus 10 , all the tracks are assigned to bus 1 innitially asuming you are running stereo , if you assign any track to a bus its colour and name is transfered to the bus and the bus name can be easily changed and its colour if needed,
In my case all my drums i would choose one colour in the tracks and same colour in the master bus which i would use bus 10, for easy recognition , then select bus name and with a pop up menu select DRUMS, same applies to multiple guitar tracks or keyboards , bass would always have its own colour and i would never need to chage its name anywhere as its consistent even if i change bus assignment which in my case i would always have bus 2 for bass if running multitracks.
I would also assume i can select bus 10 in settings so it never pitch shifts as its my drum channel in all songs.
Colour and naming of all tracks and buses should be very simple and logical to change but it has a logical automated way of also doing things for you to give you a basic start without fiddling around.
Yes this idea need very careful thought and polish but its just an idea that popped in to my head as i was thinking about this issue.
So dont take it too seriously.
To add, this idea means you can always create the order of your track layout at import but this does not affect your bus asigment order and layout, as this is determined by you and your prefference.
The bus assignments should reflect what buses you use , so if i only use bus 1, 2 and 10 then my mixer shows me just those buses in order but displays them on screen from right to left.
This minimises hogging of interface screen space and only gives you what you are using on screen , creating less unnecessary clutter on screen.
