How to import individual songs from ST3 to ST4?

Hello Peter!

First of all I thank you for such a great App ST3 which I’ve been using for 5 years. And I still recommend this App to all my musicians. You did a fantastic job!

I have a really huge database in ST3, but I’d like to export to ST4 just some of the songs and certain playlists. I didn’t find the option where to import the shared playlists or individual songs exported from ST3?

Hi Alex, I was in the same boat a while back, I found doing a full backup and loading it in to ST4 was the fastest and safest way to do what you want, the reason is , ST4 gives you an easy method to then thin down all the songs you don’t need anymore, this to me was much easier than using ST3 to filter them out.
I’m not even sure if it’s possible to do with ST3, so I just did it this way and am relying on ST4s new powers.
If you have stuff on ST4 already just export all that first, then load in the ST3 full backup , delete all unwanted songs then load in the ST4 file again to mix in with the now edited ST3 files.

You can also have both ST3 and ST4 open in split screens on iPad.
Open the Song Details page in ST3. That gives you the title, artist, duration, BPM and name of the audio file.
You can then "+" Add New Song in ST4, copy/paste all the details from the ST3 Details page.
When it prompts you to add an audio file, just select the song file in your ST3 folder in "Files". It will then be imported into ST4.
Save everything and move to the next song.
When all songs are done, create a full backup.
Sounds like a lot of steps but I can do a new song in about 45 seconds. Split screen is a lifesaver.

I did this because I didn't want to chance it with moving backups around, I knew that I could just do it one by one and it wouldn't affect anything in my existing songs.

My database is about 70 gb with more than 1000 songs. And to import them manually will take lots of time. But I can’t duplicate the whole database of 70 gb at one time, because my iPhone doesn’t have so much space. That’s why I wanted to transfer them gradually one by one of the certain high demand playlists.
That's why I asked if Peter could work out how to migrate individual songs or playlists.

Ahha! I see your problem, here’s a suggestion , not sure if it will work but it’s an idea.
What if you hooked up an external usb drive to your iPhone and copied the ST3 folder with all your songs , create a data backup , now install ST3 on your new device and replace the ST3 folder with the one on the hard drive , then restore the Data backup , this then places the iPhone ST3 on your new device which I assume has more data space, now you can create a full backup of ST3 and use that to restore on ST4 , but firstly backup your songs if you have any on ST4 already so you can then add them after the full ST3 backup restore.
Then you can delete ST3 to save space as all your songs would be on ST4.

What I would do if you want to move only part of your songs is this:

Create a full backup of the current state in ST3
Export the tracks you want to migrate into one or more export files, maybe use the export playlist feature if you want to keep playlists
Delete all songs and playlists
Import the exported files
Create a new full backup for migration to ST4

After that you can restore the initial backup if you want.

But there is no support for step by step migrations. If you later decide to move more songs from ST3 to ST4, you will have to create similar steps in ST4 to merge the data (full backup, import ST3 backup, export songs, restore previous backup, import exported songs).

It works fine if you have a free space. But I don’t have extra 70 Gb on my iPhone to backup the full huge base.

I’ll try to airdrop mp3 files to another iPhone. Hopefully it will catch all the mp3s in its native folder by importing the Database only.

Damir, it works fine! I just have to sort every stems of the songs into their individual folders, because now every song has its own folder. But anyway it's faster than creating a new song in ST4 from scratch.
