Hi Peter, I just had another play with pinch zoom, and find it unreliable to use.
ST3 pinch zoom is perfect, absolutely rock solid reliable no matter which fingers you use or in which direction you pinch it just responds perfectly .
ST4 works randomly , you have to place both fingers perfectly in time on the screen or it won’t work and if you pinch up down it does not work and if it happens to work after multiple tries it’s hard to zoom in on a specific area.
I have the two iPads side by side and with both STs this test will tell you everything you need to know.
I do love the size of the waveform now and will wait till the zoom is ok before I test other things .

The problem is the pinch detection in iOS when inside another scroll view. The only alternative I can think of is to remove the vertical scroll view. But we had that and then the region details form at the bottom was not usable. You complained about that yourself.

So the difference is only: ST3 has no vertical scroll and ST4 has it.

But you are right. It can become annoying quickly. I will see if I can find a workaround.

So, I spent 4 hours trying to find a workaround. And just when I thought I found it, had to realize that it broke the editor on iOS16&17. So back to square one. If I can not find a workaround within 4 more hours, we will have to live with the status quo.

Please don’t give up, this is so important to me for the reason I do all my audio segmenting on iPad or phone as it’s so easy and nice on ST3, i can do this wherever and whenever I chose , which is a great time saver.
I really don’t care about other things in this area what’s most important is to be able to create quick and precise audio segments within ST4 on smaller devices.
I would be happy with exact copy of ST3 performance , no logic changes no view changes just as it is its perfect.
Thanks again for the perseverance this was one of the reasons I was considering staying with ST3, the others were the sluggishness of some other things on ST4 but they are being fixed every day and this is the only area that is of concern the way I operate.
I am all about efficiency and ease of use, as you get older time becomes more valuable, the days of midi control in my 20 ties are gone , in my 60 ties if it doesn't save time it’s out the door.
Fantastic effort so far with ST4 , loving the audio segments can’t wait to use them ,

Great work it feels much more reliable now ,
Only One little thing, can it be made so it only needs maximum two pinches to fully zoom in and out at the moment it takes about four, this would speed things up.
Thank you so much for fixing this, it’s my favourite part of creating a backing track and it is so useful on stage.

Just Tested IPhone zoom, yes it’s perfect with reliability of pinch and zoom, I can use it now.
I found it takes up to six pinches to get from full zoom in to zoom out this would be much better if it took two at maximum three.

Another new discovery is the double tap to have a segment appear in full view , which by the way is very nice to have, I found the first and last segment it does the opposite, it zooms out completely and they are normally the smallest segments being an intro & end , so they are most likely the ones you need to zoom in on.
Also the second last segment on both songs I tested it on zoom in to the beginning of this segment and doesn't show the end of this segment like all others.
Fantastic job, now I actually like the iPhone editor in portrait mode almost as much as my iPad in landscape because the zoom is fixed.

Just to add an observation, I noticed when you pinch zoom with two fingers the whole interface moves up down as well , but there’s no need for it to move as I can see all necessary
Options , it only needs to move when options are off screen, like in landscape mode where you have things you might need to drag up to use.
By it moving all the time it unnecessarily wobbles on screen when pinch zooming.

I'm not sure I can disable vertical scrolling during a pinch gesture. I guess I could disable it if no region details are visible. But that would be only a partial solution.

Yes , and it’s great, but my first and last segments don’t do that , they only zoom out , and the second last segment only zooms in to the beginning of that segment, the end of this segment if off screen.
So there are two different problems,
I tried this on a number of songs and got same result.

Better than nothing , I mainly use the waveform when editing , so this would help , I only use the details to rename the segments so if I have 15 segments I need to bring down the screen 15 times to see the waveform fully, I very rarely use delete segment , that’s why I was hoping you could fix the default view after naming the segments to show full screen waveform, this would save a lot of pulling down of screen , this was the same issue in ST3 and somehow you got it to drop down automatically, I was hoping it could be done in ST4.
Thanks for making the naming of segments more efficient and for increasing the size of the waveform it really makes a big difference , I am starting to use my new iPad Air with ST4 as my main device now and am hoping to totally change to it in a few more weeks .
My iPad usage is always in landscape and my iPhone mainly in portrait for very logical reasons.
On stage iPad in portrait blocks more of your body as it is same shape as a person landscape is the opposite and when you angle it is less noticeable , most cases are designed for landscape use, it’s much better to see song and lyrics at the same time.
iPhone is much nicer to hold in portrait mode for editing and viewing on the go, landscape is very poor to display multiple things at the same time and very awkward to hold especially iPhone pro max as it’s large.
I just thought I would point out my reasoning for pushing features in my preferred orientations.
Great job so far. I still need to explore and discover some features but I am doing things one step at a time.
