May overwrite wrong song with multiple windows

Issue
When showing multiple ST4 windows, if you then go to Song Details in one window and change song in the other, that other song will be overwritten when you exit Song Details in your first window.

Steps
Select song A
Create an second Windows in ST4
Enter Song Details
Switch to first window
Select song B
Switch to second window
Exit Song Details

Now the song A's lyrics is over written with second song B's lyrics.

Note: The second window does not update the lyrics when in Lyrics edit mode when song is selected.

What do you mean by multiple ST4 windows? Secondary windows should always only show the lyrics screen. You should never be able to have multiple windows with the main user interface open.

How did you even manage to see multiple ST4 windows?

Not multiple instance, but multiple windows of the same instance..

I click the + button on the far right of the top bar to open a second tab. Then I grab the header of that tab and drag it out, creating a new window. Now I can arrange the two windows side by side.

I thought it could be a good idea to always have the lyric edit open on a second screen. 🙂

I don't see a plus button. That's not something I have implemented. Do you use any 3rd party tools? I have never seen a plus button in this place on any other app.

Stage Traxx is not capable of having multiple editor windows open.

Oh, I can’t figure out which third‑party tool it could be in that case…
It showed up at the same time you enabled double tap title bar..

Well, if it’s just me, I can avoid clicking on the plus, even if I’m tempted! 😃
But you have to admit, ST4 might be close to supporting multiple windows in the future… 😉

This can happen if an other network session participant select an other song while Im editing a song.

Steps
Let someone participate in a network session.
Select song A and go to Song Details.
Let someone else select song B.
Exit Song Details
Song A that I was editing will overwrite song B.

The host will now see the Song A lyrics for song B, but all other will still see song B lyrics, until next time anyone select song B…

This is quite serious and can quite fast mess up really bad…

At least I found out that the original issue is possible because you enabled "Prefer tabs when opening documents" in the macOS control panel. With that option enabled macOS seems to ignore the fact that ST4 does not allow secondary main interface windows.

Better disable that option.

Not sure what to do about the issue with the network clients. I don't think disabling song details when a controller is connected would be a good idea.

OK! ..but I’m still tempted.. 😜

So the problem is there are a couple of ways to select a song even when in Song Details, not just by network..
I think that is correct and should not be disabled.

Maybe just save the current song before change and then load the new song in the editor.

Since the Song Details all ready have the “Auto save at exit” behavior I think this is the smallest change of behavior.
