i imagine you you want to have a dry sound on your mic when you are talking between the songs.
So so you want to do something like this on your lyrics, in this example after a second of play, st3 sends program change 20 on midi channel 5, this could be your reverb for your voice, at the end of the song, you want to change the 20 to say number 1.
So in your fx unit, program 1 is a dry program, program 20 a vocal fx, the global parameters of the fx unit will allow you to specify what channel you receive info on, so in this example ch 5.
