Next-Pervious Song assignable buttons working strange

Ok so I preface this with the fact that I may be misunderstanding the whole Queue thing 🙂.
But
I have 2 assignable buttons on my bottom bar area.

Next Song In Queue
Previous song

I have a playlist with 30 songs
I library with about 300 currently

I selected playlist mode (playlist button top left), select first song, then close the playlist to give me full screen lyrics.

The Next Song in Queue buttons works as expected. All good.

The Previous Song button is all over the place. Selecting what seem to be random songs from my library, definitely not the previous song in my setlist. I am assuming it is doing something different that I don’t understand because it is ‘Previously Song’ not ‘Previous Song in Queue’. But I may be wrong. I never really understood the queue concept. Library of all songs, Playlists (setlists) made from the library, what more do we need?

Anyway, it would seem (I am guessing) that what I need to make it work as expected (IE, pressing Previous button goes to the previous song in my setlist) is a ‘Previous Song in Queue’ option in the assignable buttons list, which is not there.

Or am I doing something wrong?

MarkGuitar There is no 'Previous Song in Queue' action because in theory, there is no such thing as 'Previous' in the way the Queue works. The queue is dynamic - once a song is played, it is removed from the queue. There is no backwards, only forward 🙂

If the goal is simply to navigate up and down a Playlist, I'd just be using 'Next Song' and 'Previous Song'.

I use these actions for exactly this purpose. Only difference is that I don't use assignable buttons, but MIDI triggers.

MarkGuitar The queue is like a sort of buffer. As soon as you tap a song, the buffer gets populated with (currently) about 30 songs, if “Automatic queue handling” is ON.

If you turn “Automatic queue handling” OFF, the Previous/Next buttons somehow function as you would expect, although the song is not actually being selected for play, but it’s highlighted for about 5 seconds. This coincides with the 5 second highlight I was mentioning in one of my threads.

As for the queue itself, I never saw the practical use for it, but Peter wants to keep it, so I just turn Automatic queue handling ON and turn “Show queue” OFF 🙂

I also found no practical use for the Queue in the way that I use ST with my bands.

I'm either playing through a Playlist sequentially or I'm manually picking songs either from a Playlist or Songs list. I'm yet to hit a situation where I wanted to actually be in the Queue view itself, let alone navigate through the queue. But, that's just based on how I use ST.

I also keep feeling as though I'm missing out on something, or I'm not understanding something, by not using the Queue so I'm always keeping an open mind 🙂

Next Song and Previous Song are supposed to move up and down in the list you have opened in the sidebar.

There is some erratic behaviour currently as now all sidebar views (song list, playlists and queue) keep reacting to those commands even if not visible. So this needs to be fixed. Only the currently opened (or the last opened if the sidebar is closed) view should react to those commands. So if you are in a playlist, previous/next will move up and down in the playlist. If you are in the song list, it will move up and down in the song list.

And Next Song in Queue will always only modify the queue, no matter what view you have opened. But this is indeed maybe a bit complicated and I should remove this command.
