every track i record starts with the same DAW (logic) template.
same drums preset (superior drummer 3) with only variable is verb (longer for ballads)
same bass guitar and same track processing
same thing for guitars, elec or acu, same piano sampler
same master eq and limiter.
I have spent just short of 2 years 2023 - 2024 redoing all my tracks into multitracks, and taking care of making sure
there are as much consistencies in my tracks, being live instruments or samples (same kick/snare velocity etc)
and trust me, there is zero chance to get it perfect. zero. it is close, but itll never be 100%
and thats why master buss compression and eq do the final lifting. the compressor is also giving more punch and character to the tracks, not only dynamic control.
with ST3 i have no need for touching only brand new songs i add.
my guitar and vocal levels have been set perfectly and i never touch anything, i press play and enjoy the gig.
i wish i could see what i am compressing but many of these AUv3 dont show it. today I found a compressor that shows metering. how accurate isnt important as long as it does what i need it to do.
I could do it with the older one i use in ST3 but that means time and much fiddling. either or i am into a bit of a journey with this. once done its smooth sailing. Helix set on the floor, mic stand with ipad on. guitar in wireless (these 5.8G lekato ones) ipad in digitally and in ears out of the headphones out (also lekato)
L/R out the XLRs to whatever PA and done. 10 min setup if i dont have my sound and 20 if i do. no sound checks.the only thing i do is use the graphic EQ to tune the tracks to the "room", and whatever PA i go into. small changes, a db or two max in the low and high end and done.
