AUDIO EDITOR issues

Ipad 9th gen & iphone 16 Pro max 26.0.1 , St4 1865.

I tried using the new Editor with very bad results.
I deleted some already programmed loops in a song and tried to recreate them to see how good the new editor is and gave up after 5 minutes of fiddling around and wasting time.
Peter my honest feedback , please give us back the ST3 editor as you a flogging a dead horse here.
Reason is, the waveform is a lot smaller which is very hard to use accurately to get the perfect edit point, the overall logic of the editor is working against the natural work flow needed to create a perfect loop, the zoom is unusable the way it behaves to the touch, the waveform colour scheme is not an improvement its actually gone backwards
The layout of region details is a total waste of space in the middle of the screen, yet we don't have a nice large waveform which is the most important part of the editor.
ETC ETC... i could keep going.

I like the buttons and the interface look and feel it just needs to use up that space more efficiently including the DELETE REGION function to be seen at all times which i would also relabel to CLEAR REGION which is more accurate than scarring us with DELETE which could mean we are getting rid of that audio section .
This last thing is just a little thing but all the other stuff makes me want to use ST3 to edit all my regions then importing the file in to ST4 as it would be faster than what we have here.
Sorry for the negative feedback i wish it was the other way around as i know you are under the pump with other things possibly more important , but to me the audio editor is very important as its one of the most important elements of ST .

No, I am trying this on the ipad, i could actually use the iPhone as well using ST3 editor because it actually was useable.
I pad audio segment on ST3 is really fast and easy , to use on portable devices ST4 is not.

I do all my region work on the mac, but I totally agree with you. You must be able to have pin point accuracy when creating and working with regions, whether working on an ipad or mac.

royandreno It was perfect with minor cosmetic changes needed in ST3 , now we have the cosmetic changes but the usability has gone very bad to the point it would be faster to edit audio segments on ST3 and transferring the songs to ST4.
I am not looking at Mac at the moment, as we are mainly all concerned with IPad , i phone testing for me is just a second view of the same product.

Hey Peter, I just saw the new firmware and imho is great, I don’t know what iPad others use, but I’m comparing the ST3 vs ST4 apps in 2 iPads mini, and in 2 iPads M4 11” “gig work iPads” and in both I see the waveform bigger than in st3.

The audio region blocks are really great in my case because previously if a region was short (a 1 or 2 bars vamp before a chorus) the previous display was super small, barely unusable, and in this new blocks form all of them have the same length which I find super helpful.

Also choosing which track to render made it great, so I can choose the full mix, make a raw edition and the choose the click track to fine adjust them.

The only thing tho, is that the editor is a bit slow or laggy…. Even on the newer iPad M4

I understand the other users concerns, but asking to “bring back the st3 view” in my case is a big downgrade. What a conundrum…

I can't bring back the ST3 editor. I originally tried to use the old UIKit editor from ST3 in ST4 but was not able to integrate it into the SwiftUI interface. Therefore I needed to completely rewrite it. And this rewrite also has some advantages. For example the waveform looks way better than in ST3.

Downside is the performance. Just like in the list views and the mixer. My goal is to first get the functionality right and then focus on performance optimisations. The other way around you could completely ruin your optimisations by feature changes or additions.

I understand, and thats fine, as long as we end up with something we can use to end up with perfect loops with ease.
