Importing from ST3 just a song

So based on the regions bug i have now with 1832, I thought ok let me create the region i wanted to add to the song in ST3 and then import the song by itself to ST4, nope, no way to import an ST3 song.
I tried.

Theres no way that i am busy with assigning busses for days now, just to redo all that because ill need to restore a whole ST3 backup into ST4 for one song?

Same goes for adding new song to my list, as we are testing ST4 i am going to record new tracks
and the thought of redoing all the work I am doing now, is just not gonna be an option

can we please be able to import a single song from ST3 to ST4?

Sorry, ST3 and ST4 are not meant to work in parallel. There is a migration of your data possible via migrating the backup. But there will be no support for the other file formats.

peter so what could be a solution?

back up ST4 data only? then restore a backup from ST3 and then restore data only of ST4?
because i am adding new songs almost every week. (to ST3)

I am doing so much work now it has taken days and i am no where to finish assigning busses, renaming tracks (so i can see in mixer what is what) just to erase all that work? i cant take the app ST4 to a gig until i can do all that and i cant do all this work twice, so please some advise?

My advice is: don't put that much effort into maintaining data in BETA software. Wait for the final release and then migrate.

I needed to get all the buss assignments in order to be able to do a gig with it this weekend. proper road test isn't done at home.

There is a workaround. Not perfect, but it will get you what you need:

Create a full backup in ST4
Import a full backup from ST3
Select and export all songs you want to update
Load the full backup from ST4
Load the exported song file

peter I tried to be clever, ,made a full ST4 backup, made a data only ST4 BU
made a full ST3 backup and restored it into ST4, then restored the data only
and everything went funny 🙂

your idea seems good. Ill give it a try if and when i add new songs into St3.

Loading a ST3 backup will create new unique ids for everything. Trying to load a database only backup over this will not work as the IDs in the database backup don't match the newly created from the migration which are also used in file naming. My approach is the only one that will work.
