wanted to create a loop region at the end of a song, was fine before this build, now not

Firstly, how does one generate a waveform for what i want to work on? i cant find it, most tracks i would
want the drums but this song i needed piano or strings and i cant find how to select the right track to view

ok so, the track that i can see, shows in full but there is a strange thing where the playhead just goes very fast through the waveform as if its only 30s long or so, then disappears off the screen and then just shows a blank space, hard to explain ill send you a vid peter. I can create a region but cant see it or edit it or delete it unless it is within the seconds before the playhead disappears off he screen. i can create and edit/delete a region if the playhead is still showing.

@AnthonyB Is correct. The waveform is always generated from a sum of all tracks in the song. So there is no need to select a track.

Regarding the rendering: I can reproduce the issue. I suspect yesterdays waveform generation fix introduced a new bug in regards to the waveform rendering.

Peter had previously confirmed this change in behaviour (one of the rare things I do remember!).

ST3 - you select which audio track to use to Generate the Waveform (from memory, this was also limited to the audio tracks had to be the exact same length for the 'Generate Waveform' button to appear)
ST4 - the Waveform will be automatically generated from the combination of ALL audio tracks

At the time I thought this was interesting and might cause some people some issues.
I actually liked the 'per track' behaviour in ST3 because an unintended benefit was if I screwed up the DAW export of stems that should all be the same length, then I would be missing the Generate Waveform button!
But from a direct usability of the feature perspective, I haven't yet run into an issue.

I can definitely see the point of wanting to 'solo' the click track or drum track to set region boundaries right on a beat.

Maybe that is the solution - the Mixer overlay could be available on the Song Details -> Regions tab which would let people mute/solo any tracks or buses while working on Audio Regions? That would solve it from an Audio perspective, but not the visual of the waveform (unless you could also tie the Mixer controls to the waveform being re-drawn based on which tracks/buses aremuted/solo'd?).

I can live with that, even though to create a loop it is so much easier to do this using the drums or click tracks

problem is the bug which i cant show you because theres a limit on the upload

This occurred to me as well. Whilst I generally don’t use regions for loops, I do use them to mark sections in a song and with 3 I used our click track, which is super accurate as the audio file for waveform reference. Whilst having the full mix as the visible waveform whilst playing back, it would be good to be able to select which waveform to use when creating regions.

I understand, but could you consider adding an option so we can choose the whole mix or a specific track? Or maybe just the 1st track in the audio files.

I consider that having the ability to use the click track is so much more precise, and faster, because the playback line that follow the audio while playin in the audio regions editor has a tiny bit of delay… so when you press play, the bar is not perfectly on sync with the audio, so when you have a really complex mix with over 20 audios for example, managing to get the audio region perfectly for the loop to sound really natural while looping takes a few trial and error… is just for precision and make it faster.

If not, well we can adapt and do it several times.

Fixed in build 1848. You need to clear the waveform cache to get rid of this bug on existing songs. Open Settings > User Interface > Clear Waveform Cache.

Sorry, I cannot choose the audio to generate the waveform, even after clearing the cache,I’m guessing it will remain as a full mix waveform correct?

Note: after I cleared the cache I didn’t re-import the audios, I kept the ones I already had.

Could a workaround be, importing all audios, do the audio regions, deleting and leaving the click track, perfecting the audio regions and then importing the remaining audios again?

I know is a pain in the ass doing this 3 times, but I need the regions to be perfect and I also work with large medleys 8-12 min with variable bpm, so the grid won’t work in my case, that’s why using the metronome track as waveform reference was so important for me in ST3, I just need a workaround for ST4.

I didn't add that. I just fixed the issue with the rendering.

MusicMan81 But I see that track selection would be useful, so I have reopened this issue and will add it.
