But here’s a tip for anyone wanting to Mp3Gain their multitracks
Make a stereo track version of your mix minus BV’s, Click or Lead Vox,
So basically a full instrumental mix
The reason not to add BV’s etc is that this would be a variable and some songs might not have any.
So an instrumental is your BASELINE.
Use Mp3Gain analyze and use default values
Take note off the volume reduction,
Let’s say for example it’s -4.62db
Add your Stems to your multitrack and offset the volumes of each stem by -4.6db
This gives consistency to your track volumes and usually you will only occasionally need to boost a track long in length or a medley with various dynamics or lower a song that is low in instrumentation or say a drum kit with brushes
This volume boost or cut should be done on the song level
It’s also worth noting if you have a mixture of Stereo tracks and Multitracks and use this method it will add consistency to using both
Now for anyone already using Volume levelling software this will make sense,
This post is aimed to help
Please don’t get into a debate or comment how Mp3Gain ruined your files or how it decreases loudness etc,
In short it didn’t
(that’s the idea, you have various Gainstaging opportunities to add volume via Master Eq on ST3 or on your input gain on your Mixer)
