I can’t make Multitrack work on my iPad

Hi everyone. Im very new to ST3 (so please forgive what is probably a simple question) and have started to use it based on recommendations from lots of people. I am, however, really struggling with multitracks. Please help.

My scenario is that we have lots of stereo tracks and matching clicks. Currently I trigger them on my spd-sx but want to move to ST3 on iPad Pro 2nd gen, running iOS 18.6.2. I need to (a) link “Song 1” to “click 1” so they both start at the same time, and (b) I want a different routing for the two linked files.
From what I have read on these forums it should be straightforward but my issue is that I cannot find the Multitrack feature anywhere in order to link them,
I’d also like to know how I route them to be able to send the L and r stereo outputs to FOH, and the synched click output to my IEM mixer as my iPad only has usb c out.

SBB I did the exact same transition with my band about 2 years ago 🙂

First up, on the "I cannot find the Multitrack feature anywhere in order to link them" question.
In ST3, there are 3 song types (Ref: https://stagetraxx.com/user-guide/songs/#song-types). You need to create a "Multitrack Song" to achieve the desired result. From there, you'll add the audio files via "Configure Multitrack Playback" in the Song details of your newly created Multitrack song (ref: https://stagetraxx.com/user-guide/multitrack/)

We'd need to know more about your Mixer and signal path to IEM vs FoH to answer specifically. Does your IEM mixer also let you split specific tracks back out to FoH? Or are you going to need an audio interface between the iPad and these destination mixer to perform the digital-to-analog conversion (i.e. what the SPD-SX what effectively doing)?

If your IEM mixer has a USB input (i.e. can present itself to the iPad as an audio interface), AND you can choose to send certain channels to IEM only and others to FoH, then that is your path forward. Just connect your iPad to the mixer via a USB cable and you should see a bunch of channels appear for audio output routing (Ref: https://stagetraxx.com/user-guide/settings/#audio-routing)

If your mixer doesn't have a USB input, then things get a little more complicated and/or limited depending on you better explaining the signal paths. I could explain all the scenarios but better you explain your setup and we can focus on that 🙂

Hi Anthony - thanks so much for taking the time to send this comprehensive response. I'll offer all I can.

I found the Multitrack option - I was using info from these pages that seemed to imply I go into the added song itself, then the settings, but of course it is in the Songs list, hit +, then add new multitrack. So I'm all good on that now, thanks.

Signal paths:
We run a splitter which the venue run all their inputs into, then they take their feeds from the splitter into their stage box/FOH (call it Split 1), and we take the other split (Split 2) into our Soundcraft Ui24r which is our dedicated IEM desk. This way FOH only need to worry about FOH, and we have complete control over our individual IEM mixes.
Currently the SPD-SX send L&R out to FOH (via splitter), and a mono Sub channel (for the click) straight out of SPD-SX to IEM desk.

So we need StageTraxx, via the ipad, to be able to send the stereo tracks to our splitter (which then supplies FOH and our desk), and the Click straigt to IEM desk (effectively 3 outs). How is this accomplished on Stage Traxx please? I can't think I'm the only one who needs to do this but I might be the only one who doesn't know how to... 🙂

It's also just hit me that I need to be able to send midi signals to an external (windows) laptop, which triggers synched video playback (or use video which is on the iPad is fine too) - so that'll need an additional output to HDMI too - any suggestions welcome

Your best option is to connect a usb audio interface that has enough outputs and built in midi. A cheap Behringer UMC204HD might already be sufficient. Just make sure the audio interface is compatible with iOS.

For most interface you might need a powered usb hub as an iPad does not supply enough power on the USB/Lightning port for most interfaces.
