peter This feature was requested a couple of times. I can only say that it will not be added in version 4.0. In my opinion this feature needs to know where the beats are to position the click properly. Yes, you segment your songs accordingly, but not everyone does that and a count in off beat would result in lots of support emails complaining about the incorrect count in. So as long as I have no good solution for detecting the beat grid, I will hold off implementing this feature.
I disagreed with that view,
the request of delay and count in does not need to know any of the songs info all it is letting you know is when the song is starting, bands for years have been doing this to all start at the same time , one member would yell out 3, 4 and bang ! The band starts on 1, this can be easily replicated by a visual count down and a very simple large number 3 than 4 shown on the screen to lead us in to the exact time of start of audio tracks , this does not have to represent the actual tempo/beat type of the song it is simply telling us when the song starts, it also gives us a nice delay after hitting start so we can position our hands to start playing . Most people program a tempo value, this can be used to more accurately display the count in, it does not need to be perfect as it’s purely there to indicate the exact start of backing.and it should be a simple option to place in to any song if required, lots of us have instruments that require two hands to operate and some songs start with live drums which might not require this as you require inctant start on the beat, but then again it would be nice for all the band members to see that the start button has been been activated by the controlling member as they are spread out on stage and need a count in to the exact start of the backing.
I know you can do all that in the daw , but that’s a lot of unnecessary work when it can be easily done by the player , you simply create all tracks from bar 1 in editor and export them in to ST3 now you have instant start capability or you simply introduce a very short count in, this simplifies the editing process gives the user on stage better control and is simple to engage or disengage . What I have done in the past using my tyros keyboard for backing , I would yell out to band members 3 4 and press the start button as not all had a screen to look at , now that we have screens this could be done visually, and would make it user friendly if doing solo work needing to finger start an immediate start while needing to play an instrument all at the same time.
Now that I think of it you have already given us a lovely visual click of programmed tempo, why not use that as the timing of the 3 2 1 count in to start, which would give us a nice delay and a visual count to beginning of backing ?.
Suggestion, as you hit start you make the audio start on the fourth click flash , you convert the first 3 flashes to show large numbers on lyrics screen 3 2 1 than start the audio and normal click flashes around the screen.
So as you hit start you create a delay of the length of time it takes to flash the 3 numbers and BANG on the fourth flash everything starts as normal .
These little things matter a lot more to the majority than, will a blue light flash in perfect Time with the kick drum?
