The recently released iOS (and iPadOS) version 17.7.7 has a serious bug that affects most apps including Stage Traxx and Stage Cue. That version no longer stores app settings reliably. Every time you start an app the settings are reset to default.

Wait for a fixed version 17.7.8 and under no circumstances update to 17.7.7. Most apps (including Stage Traxx and Stage Cue) are unusable on that iOS version.

Or google for iOS 17.7.7 broken.

peter changed the title to Warning: Don't update to iOS 17.7.7!!! .

Thank you for warning us, Peter! With a show coming up this weekend, this would have been a disaster.

I experienced the same issue and can no longer Sync Data in the Stage Traxx app through iCloud. This is very troubling as I make changes on different devices but always want to have easy access to the most current setup of my account. Good thing I had made a full backup of everything prior to installing the iOS 17.7.7.

    WHAT A HEADACHE!

You can no longer sync data because the default setting for iCloud is off. So whenever you start the app, it turns it back off.

ginacc Just to add, DONT HAVE AUTO UPDATE INSTALL ENABLED ON THE DEVICE YOU USE ST3 ON. for this very reason.

Yeah, it's definitely a balancing act of security vs. reliability when it comes to installing iOS updates on iPads used for ST (or any key piece of band/performance tech).

Worst case, this is where Apple's very slow iOS auto-install process works in your favour. I like to wait at least a few weeks after a release before I install. And I also need to advise bandmates as having a mix of iOS version Clients connecting to the ST Host is also undesirable.

The other rule I stick by is to only use the ST3 Host iPad for it's base function - running ST. It has no other apps installed other than what I need to facilitate my workflow to get audio and lyric files onto it. Definitely no web browsing, no email (which does present a problem if needing to collect logs for support as ST simplifies the process by creating a support email in the default client with the logs 🙁 Would be good to allow logs to simply be exported somewhere.), etc. Uninstall any default Apple apps that aren't needed.

Usually I agree with @Damir especially on bigger updates like for example now the 18.5 update. But in this case 17.7.7 was supposed to be just a security update without any changes to the functionality. These security updates have been safe in the past and it was always recommended to install them in a timely manner. But this update has just gone horribly wrong.

I guess the best recommendation would be to have a backup iPad running with a completely different major version of iOS. So in the case where the iOS18.4 update broke Airplay, you could switch to the iOS 17.7.6 device and now when the 17.7.7 update broke everything you could switch back to iOS18.5 which fixed the Airplay bug.

Apple has now stopped distributing the iOS17.7.7 update. I guess it won't take long for the 17.7.8 update to be released.

Is this update for older iPads only? im currently on 18.4.1

That's for all iPads that can run iOS17 but not iOS18.

I was lucky, my band uses a mix of Gen 4 (capped at iOS 16) and Gen 9 iPads (already on iOS 18). No hardware on the inbetween iOS version 🙂

AnthonyB I was lucky as well I run my performance iPad Pro that can’t go to any higher that 17.6 that actually automatically downloaded 17.7 and was waiting for a finger push to install it then I read Peters message that saved the day, so thanks Peter! 👌my newer iPad 9th gen is on 18.4 which is my backup , it’s not a pro version and just sounds cheaper quality than the older iPad Pro so I prefer to use the older one on stage , I won’t be buying another iPad till Apple put some more effort in the body design. This applies to buying a Tesla car I don’t like things that are fully software driven I like physical buttons and blinkers you can immediately grab and use this applies to actual headphone audio jacks and home return button which is a must have to make the devices work for us faster and more reliably.
I think Apple designers are barking up the wrong tree at the moment, but one day they will realise when someone else designs something more practical and their sales drop drastically, perhaps not in my lifetime but isn’t coming.
      Come on 17.8 hurry up!😂

Version 17.7.8 has finally been released.

peter Version 17.7.8 has finally been released.

        IS IT SAFE?

Seems so. At least the settings problem is fixed.

peter Thanks Peter I might leave it for a few more days just in case.
