can anyone explain why my remote for my tv sound bar turns the volume up and down on ST3 when i connect the ipad to the sound bar using Bluetooth thanks dave

Most bluetooth speakers work that way. All consumer mobile bluetooth speakers with volume buttons that I know of control the connected device volume through the buttons. I guess that's the same with your soundbar. The advantage is, that this volume setting is stored on the device. So if you connect different devices to your soundbar, each will restore the last used setting when connected.

any way i can stop it doing that to the ipad .i use the sound bar for checking my edited files, gives me a good idea of how its going to sound through the DAC INTO THE MIXER ,so if the ipads not at full i'm losing dynamics from the audio file ,and if i try to turn the sound bar up which also turns the volume up on the ipad i'll blow the windows out 🙂

Not that I know of. Professional gear like for example the BOSE S1 Pro has an independent volume knob that does not affect the volume of your iPad.
