'Combine USB and Headphone Output' Volume Query

Hi All,

I've overcome various challenges and Stage Traxx is working brilliantly apart from the below.

I am playing ST3 through the iPad's USB-C to headphone adapter/phono cable into my mixing desk.

If I have the 'Combine USB and Headphone Output' 'OFF'
Each Track loses about half a second of audio at the beginning. So on tracks where I'm counting in you hear 'ne, not 'one', and on tracks where the track instruments start the song, the first chord is typically lost which is really confusing. It does NOT make a difference if I use the 'fade in' option, however long it is set to.

If I have the 'Combine USB and Headphone Output' 'ON'
The above delay/problem is fixed, but as a result I am unable to change the volume of the device, and the default volume is only just loud or full enough.

Can anyone help or advise please?

Third party usb-c audio adapters often have chips with power saving options where they only start processing audio once they see an audio signal. The problem is that they often need a split second from the point they see an audio signal to the point where it is actually sent to the output.

Why that issue is not visible with the combine headphone option, I can not tell. Regarding the volume problem: this seems to be a common issue with this option on. iOS seems to add quite a lot of headroom to the signal and it does not react to the hardware volume settings on the iPad.

So if you can not boost the signal lout enough in your mixer, you will have to try a different usb-c adapter. Usually the original Apple adapters work fine.

Hi, Thanks. I shall therefore assume that the Volume problem can't be fixed, I think I can work around it anyway, so should be OK.

However, if it is possible to use the devices Volume and switch the option 'Off' that would be great. I'm not entirely sure we're on the same wave length as you've mentioned chips and power saving options, I can't see those things being relevant with the above cable that I'm using?

Your cable has a chip in the left connector which converts the digital signal to an audio signal. USB-C can not transfer analog audio data. You always need a chip for that.
