When I'm working in my home studio, I will either use ST3 just with the built-in iPad speaks, or connect it to my PreSonus Studio 24c (stereo output + MIDI In/Out).
In my band situation, I'm connecting to a Behringer X32 rack via the X-USB card which presents 32-outputs as mono channels or in stereo pairs.
I am always working with multitrack audio files in ST3. Two stereo wave files:
- Stereo Backing track -> X32 Track 25/26
- Stereo track with drum click hard (L) and band click/Cues hard (R) -> X32 Track 27/28
I have initially verified my multitrack audio routing while connected to the X32, and have a standard way of setting up each song with multitrack audio that I have verified is working. So, everything is working perfectly.
When I am at home in my studio without the X32, St3 will just route all 4 tracks to the iPad speaker or my PreSonus audio interface.
While I know that I only need to ensure the Setting -> Audio Routing -> Multrack Outputs are configured correctly when I plug in the X32 and all my songs should then 'just work' I do find a little disconcerting that I have to check and verify each time I plug into the different audio interfaces.
What I would love to see is my X32 audio interface routing settings able to be recalled, kind of like an audio routing 'profile', even if I'm not connected to the device. This way, when I'm working in my studio, I can still see everything is routing correctly just like if I had the X32 connected.
I'm not suggesting that there be a library of audio interface configurations as that would be massive, but maybe ST could have an ability to capture an audio device config and audio routing while connected to the device and save it as a profile, able to be recalled at any time?
