Recently, when I've been playing tracks in a playlist (without Autoplay) but want to skip a track, the track I've skipped will still play even though it's not highlighted 'play' or 'next' and the track I want to play is showing on the screen. Any help much appreciated.

That sounds weird. Are you maybe in Advanced Queue mode? That would explain it. Make sure it is disabled in Settings > Queue.
