MIDI - Order of merged global and song-specific commands

Hi,

Simple question and apologies if it has been asked before. Can someone please clarify how MIDI commands for song load, play, stop and playback end in the global playback settings are merged with [midi: ...], [midi@play: ...], [midi@stop ...] as stored in the song lyrics.

I'm mainly interested in the order they are executed after merging and whether any other sorting or amalgamating goes on in the process.

I should clarify that I have put some commands that I need to happen between songs in the [midi: ... ] section of the lyrics and they work as expected but not when I put them in the global load or 'playback ends' sections.

Just wanted to say, ST3 is a great app which I've used in over 50 shows and I could not do what I do without it now. Thank you 🙂

I'm not sure that section of the manual covers what I'm asking. I need an event that will always fire between songs (I use it to reset lighting equipment). I wanted to use the global 'Load' event in 'Playback Settings - Send Midi' but that seems to happen AFTER the [midi: ...] command in the lyrics file meaning song specific midi commands get overwritten by global ones. Is this right?

Yes. What you define in the global midi on load setting is appended to the midi on load commands defined in the song.

You could maybe use the midi on playback ends event which will fire when playback stops.

Thanks for the clarification, Peter. I'd rather be able to apply the global first knowing I can overwrite it on a song by song basis if necessary. Can reversing the order be made an option?

I am using 'Playback Ends' at the moment but it worries me that if I 'autoplay' and/or crossfade then I'm not getting that event between songs anymore.

I'll just have to work with it but I use a lot of midi and my lyrics files are already littered with commands so the more I can pull out into global the better it would be.

I think having the option to overwrite whatever you define globally with the local song settings makes sense. I will change the order the commands are concatenated in the next update.
