Hi Peter, Firstly Command, shift, edit does not work to stop/start control in any mode of ST3 on my MAC STUDIO keyboard.
Secondly WHY would I want THIS ? 3 finger awkward command to something I use very regularly and should be as simple as hitting SPACE BAR?
Thirdly the LOGIC of operation of playhead in the AUDIO SEGMENT EDITOR is not working efficiently and the way it should when using ST3 on the MAC STUDIO, its bearable on the iPad but even there it lacks LOGIC to help the user.
Perhaps my very long and precise explanation has not helped.
When audio segment editing.
Very simply put. I am pointing out the weaknesses of this mode, and how the speed of editing can improve greatly .
I expect to be able to STOP START play by pressing SPACE BAR on keyboard as well as hitting the very tiny area of play triangle on my very large screen.
Playhead LOGIC needs to change depending if you select a segment or not.
If you don't have a segment selected Playhead logic remains the way it is.
If you select a segment the playhead LOGIC should be,
When you hit SPACEBAR to play the song it should always play through to a loop point and jump to the SELECTED AUDIO loop segment beginning, why? because you have selected that segment which means you are working on it and it should be the FOCUS point of what you are trying to do, and that is TESTING YOUR LOOP POINTS , when I select a loop I am editing I need to drag my playhead to a point where it will play through till the loop end then it needs to jump back to my FOCUSED loop point so I can hear with ease of what it sounds like , this has to be done on all my loops created to make sure when I choose any loop it will work correctly , this is very time consuming if the logic of operation is not setup to favour the user.
ALSO when I drag the playhead in to the loop that's selected , this should automatically OBEY my selection of this loop and keep on looping this segment as I have the handle bars telling me I am in the loop edit mode so why is it not looping this section.
At the moment you have no purpose in logic of the playhead behaviour in this mode, as soon as you drag your playhead all logic is lost the song just plays through all loop points , WHY? I don't need to hear the full song again in its entirety I NEED TO HEAR HOW MY LOOP POINTS BEHAVE.
I need the software to work for me not against me.
Naming Loops, When you select a loop, the keyboard should behave to serve the user , the space bar is your STOP START , ONLY when you select the NAME area should the keyboard become a normal keyboard for typing and space bar is now a space bar.
When you hit enter and your name is DONE the keyboard becomes a useful tool to keep creating loops, SPACE BAR becomes your STOP START again and any other controls we might need to speed up our editing process.
WE DEFINITELY DO NOT WANT 3 FINGER COMMANDS, this is the LAST RESORT on Very COMPLICATED software that is running out of screen space.
To me its a sign of BLOATED software and an easy way to program things , just let the user suffer but its easy to program.
I did not mention these issues before because I never really used my MAC Studio for editing, I found the IPAD was much faster and more convenient.
But now that I am using the MAC , it really shows the weaknesses, although having the big screen is wonderfull.
If you still don't see my point please let me know perhaps I can explain it differently.
By doing things slightly different makes a big difference in speed of completing a song, which is my goal, I have edited around 500 songs to ST3 fullest capability excluding MIDI of course so I am well aware of what the issues are.
I hope this helps to FINE TUNE It .
Cheers Damir
