I believe both programs are very powerful and well designed to do a certain job, but both of them have their weak points that could be easily fixed if they shared their strong points.
Loopy Pro seems fantastic from a quick live creation of backing track song segments but from what I can see by looking at the Utube videos, all I see is a great way to create song segments which can be greatly manipulated while performing live , the performances a very interesting for the first few performances then they get boring very quickly and they put a lot of pressure on the performer which then becomes hard to watch after a while the end result can be fantastic if you are a genius guitarist and computer wiz with also a great voice and a fantastic personality to entertain, let’s face it there’s not many of these creatures around.
ST4 on the other hand will hopefully allows us to prepare all the hard work at home and make it super easy on stage to manipulate our act to make it instantly interesting to the audience without having to wait ten loop passes to create a 4 bar intro then sweat through a god knows what process to get through the whole song, SORRY LOOPY PRO YOU ARE TOO MUCH HARD WORK ON STAGE AND I AM NOT THAT MUCH OF A GENIUS UNFORTUNATELY,
what I like about you is how you can easily bring different loops in and out in to your performance to create on the run the feel of a song part, this I like very much, ST4 could use some of this idea as it already has the different tracks and loops available it would be perfect to be able to solo/mute a particular part with in a loop so you can create a particular ambiance within the song as it runs through, without having the stress of creating everything all the time like Loopy Pro, we have the mute facility already but it’s not designed for on stage use.
Perhaps similar to Loopy Pro we could have all track Mute and Solo control buttons available and a swipe up enables SOLO and swipe down enables mute for each track while performing and also a swipe left drops the volume and a swipe right increases the volume of each track in 2db segments, things like this would make ST4 a much more powerful tool making it similar to Loopy Pro but yet different where you are still not having to think too much on the song itself but just making it interactive enough to impress the audience and make it seem like you have full power of what is going on in the song, like having a live band at your command.
This is where I believe ST4 should head toward as a player it would be very nice if in prep you could create a loop from scratch in multitrack mode similar to Loopy Pro but on stage I would want ST3 4 type of control to perform with not LOOPY PRO as it’s too demanding on my brain that needs to be more focused on the audience.
I hope I have made some points clear to where we are heading with ST4 so it improves some on stage operations.
Great work Peter, I’m loving the loops
