I have an old iPad running an older version of st3. I sent a back up from my MacBook but it said there wasn’t enough space. So I deleted the app and data and reinstalled.

It is still saying I need about 4000 mb of space. But I have enough space.

What can I do

Maybe delete some other apps. ST3 checks if iOS reports enough free space to restore the backup. In your case iOS does not report enough free space. So the only way to free up space is to delete other apps.

I did this. There is loads of GB free. No matter what I do it always asks for approx 4715 MB more space?

How much free space do you have and where is the backup file located? If it is in the cloud, it needs to be copied to your iPad first. Once this is done, you need at least 4715MB of free space.
