Hi Peter hope you are doing fine but it’s time for fine tuning requests, things that have been pushing my buttons since ST3 started.
I would like the lyrics editor to do better.
At the moment if I time stamp everything perfectly to the beat on the screen playback it is out of sync , we have talked about this in the beginning but perhaps now is the time to fix this, because of the movement of the lines taking priority over highlighting the lines you get a delay and out of visual sync with the music, to get around this I have for years pressed the sync button on the and before the actual 1 count and this has fixed this problem, but it takes great effort and skill to do this on some songs the AND is hard to pick.
What should happen in the software when I hit time code button when playing a song?
This exact time code should be used to highlight the line but another hidden automated timecode should be created to shift this line by the amount determined by tempo setting and its value to vary but set to be on the AND position prior to the time code that was set on the first beat, this will then make line changes on the AND and the highlight of lines on the exact beat 1 as expected, this then will let the user hit all time codes in perfect time with the song but will shift the line earlier on the AND before the 1 making the line changes earlier won’t distract us as we have read the previous line already and it’s prepared the next line earlier and it has highlighted the line in perfect sync.
This will make synced lyrics perfect as they always should have been.
I will then program my time codes on the exact beat as it should be and not on the AND beat and getting my highlighted lines in perfect sync.
As you change the tempo setting this early timecode gets changed accordingly and visually and operationally nothing changes except the line changes happen earlier and line highlight are presented in perfect time as we programmed them.
This has driven me nuts for ages.
I wonder how many of us feel the same or have done what I have done to work around the problem or am I too fussy if I am I apologise.
Suggestion, in lyric editor , the circular button that clears time code and lyrics, why not make that undo redo last step and make the EDIT LYRICS heading a blue colour so as you touch it it gives you the clear timecode and lyrics option and perhaps other editing options like select all Delete etc any other useful editing commands , it seems like a wasted space just telling us a suck egg thing like it’s the Editor , we know that as we already have selected EDIT LYRICS in the previous page and yes it can say EDIT LYRICS as it is but then make it do something and please give us an UNDO/REDO button to increase our workflow speed, just a thought 🥸.
And the last thing for today someone might have a solution , when I am typing multiple numbers on the keypad every time I enter a number and hit enter the damn keyboard automatically gets back to Letters while I still want to use numbers, can I disable this in any way so if I choose the layout of keyboard I want it stays there till I decide which layout I want next instead of this automated return to letters?
Any ideas ?
This behaviour of keyboard is not present when I use the keyboard in another software so why is this happening in ST3?
Also where is the undo function , I believe it was available in the lyrics editor keyboard window now it is not there, is this a settings thing?
Another frustrating thing is when you are entering chords you always have to hit shift to get a capital letter, why ? Can’t it just default to Capital letter as the first entry then go back to lowercase to enter the minor and have the numbers already there so we can just enter the 7th or 9th etc. this would save a lot of fing around with the chord entering process and create a much faster workflow.
Aren’t computers meant to speed things up?
Thanks Damir
