Hi Peter, i love the Audio Region facility on ST3 and it is great how you can just hit + and you get a new region automatically created at the end of last region this has really made life easier , great job, but i feel an improvement in auto naming a region could be made, my suggestion is we dont really need to be told NEW REGION in the newly created box area as its suck egg information, what would be more usefull if the regions are just numbered either just a number 1 , 2 , 3 etc or perhaps Region 1, Region 2, Region 3, etc so you have an immediate worth while lable of the region , i would just Preffer a simple number 1 to 24 that way i know exactly how many regions i have as i am creating them , as they have to be relabeled anyway but at least i have a useful initial lable which might be fine if i just want to have track numbers on a 14 song medley , at least my tracks would be immediately identified without any relabeling and i would know at all times how many regions i have left to use , here is an example photo.
NEW REGION is just a whole bunch of the same lable without any real purpose and as i said before a suck egg lable without a purpose as we all know its a new region what we really need to know is which region is which and how many have we used so we can easily identify a region and play it without having to do any relableing , also a simple number is always seen in all 24 regions as they are much smaller so the benefits are great.
I know there will be logic problems if you remove say region 5 then create another region in another spot , but i would stll preffer that new region becomes Region 5 even though its in the wrong spot as i can rename it to whatever i want, but at least if i am creating regions in order i get a benefit of immediate correct numbering, New Region lable is just as useless as Region 5 in a wrong spot but at least if you quickly keep addin regions in order you get a benefit of not having to rename your tracks if you just preffer to have numbered tracks , as with the old system you always have to rename the regions and thats unnecessary work.
If i havent explained it clearly let me know and i will explain it differently so you can clearly seethe logic, that will save a lot of time to users.
Heres an example , i normaly use verse, chorus, solo, etc so when i hit + to create a new section it labels each part the same , this makes it difficult to recognise which part is what , if the parts were numbered then you ould easily see part 6 shoud be solo, you click on part six and relable it SOLO.
Now you have a whole new bunch of NEW REGIONs with no idea which one is which.
Hope you can see my logic.
Heres another suggestion , if you have created 24 regions and each one gets a different number, if you then say delete region 2 then perhaps region 9 but then you create another region , the logic of the new name no matter where you decide to create a new region the next region gets the lower number of region thats available which in this case would be 2 then if you create another one it would be labled 9, the fact that the order will be wrong is not really important as it can be easily renamed , what is most important every new region that is created gets a unique indentifier which is a number in this case, this allows us to keep track of what number repesents what part so we dont get confused when creating lots of regions then lableing them at the end.
In my examle i had 14 songs in a row and it was very easy to create the 14 loops but what took most of my time was selecting the loops after they were created and then changing the keyboard to show numbers then choosing a number, now because the screen jums up it hides the regions existing numbering as it jumps up off screen which is also another hurdle so you have to remember the previous loops number then you enter the number , and you have to do this for every loop, this is awkward and time wasting, i should just hit + get a new region with its own original identifier automatically , this takes no time at all and then i can remember no 7 is soloand rename it or no 13 is verse 3 etc etc. This creates a smooth operation in creating regions which i like to call loops as its easier to write and makes more sense as you do loop these parts .
Technically regions is correct
Practically Loops is much easier to say and understand by the user.
