  • Stagetraxx + Behringer Xair USB mode + Qlab (video and lights)

Good morning everyone,
first of all thank you Peter and congratulations for Stage Traxx! I use it intensively with my funky band and this year I would like to take the next step.

We use Stage traxx on an iPad, connected to the Behringer Xr18 mixer with an Apple adapter (lightning to USB), in USB multitrack mode (we play multitrack stems, click, cues).
My question is: is it possible to use a hub after the Apple adapter, and then connect the iPad with Xr18 and also with a PC on which to start Qlab?

In this way we could send the audio stems to the Xr18 mixer and, at the same time, some MIDI signals to Qlab, with which to operate video and lights, in sync with the stems.

I hope I have explained the concept well!

Thank you and I wish you a good day,
Marco

Yes, USB hubs do work but you might have to experiment with different hubs to find one that works and you might need to use one with its own power supply.

Thanks for the reply. Would it also be possible to transmit midi signals to another iPad with stage traxx (in slave mode), and from the second iPad output to another apple lightning-USB adapter, to go directly to the PC with Qlab?

In this way the main iPad (host) only sends the audio to the Xair mixer, while the second slave iPad sends the midi commands (written in the lyrics) to the PC with Qlab. So I don't have to buy unofficial Apple hubs.

That only works with 2 midi interfaces connected together.

A better approach might be to use the network host feature.

peter hi Peter! Could you please give me more details?

    Thank you

    Thank you..!

Are there any alternatives to do what I've drawn?

You could try midi out from XR18 to the PC with QLAB. Or you could use the midimittr app to send midi over wifi to the other iPad or directly to the PC (if it is a Macbook, don't know if Windows can work with that).

    Hello Peter,

Perhaps the first solution (wired) is more reliable..
I saw that in the Behringer Xair settings, there is the "USB-DIN Pass Thru" option.

If I activate it, all MIDI signals coming from external devices are transmitted from the MIDI out port of the mixer. At that point, would it be enough for me to purchase a MIDI to USB adapter to be able to communicate with Qlab?

Do you have suggestions on reliable adapter brands?

    Thank you so much!
    Marco

Yes, a USB MIDI dongle should be all you need. Basically any MIDI dongle that supports your operating system will work.
