AirPlay issue version 3.8.9

Love this software - in recent versions though I've not been able to play using AirPlay. The AirPlay symbol used to come up next to the volume slider on the settings page, but it's disappeared.

I tried a hard reinstall (deleting the app then starting again from backup) but the symbol won't reappear. Bluetooth works fine and other apps can play through AirPlay devices using the control panel (top right).

Any ideas?

I can confirm that. Seems like Apple has removed the routing button from the iOS volume slider. But you can still choose your Airplay destination from the control center. Pull down control center and tap on the destination icon:

I'd tried to route via the control panel. I've got three AirPlay devices on the network and have tried them all individually (and together). It doesn't matter if they're selected, I'm afraid the sound just outputs from the iPad speaker. However, as I mentioned previously, if a Bluetooth speaker is paired the sound diverts to it as it should.

I couldn't find this issue mentioned anywhere else on the support site - or on the internet - so maybe it's just a setting in my device somewhere. If you've got any other suggestions I'd appreciate them.

I'm sorry, I have no idea. When I select an Airplay device in control center ST3 plays audio through that device like it always did.

I was hoping to make use of airplay during my breaks, I have the latest iTunes installed on my pc, the pc sees my LG television, but refuses to play my pc based songs on it. My pad sees the tv and played tunes from st3 and the Apple Music player. What I can’t do, is get my pad and st3 to allow my laptop to be a destination for songs on st3. I’ve deleted the apple app from my pad as I found it was trying to take over from st3 and now don’t have any working destinations. I presume it’s just apple playing silly buggers. I haven’t messed with this stuff since the creation of the airport router with audio out, but would love to sort it.

Does airplay theoretically allow you to press play on pad, and the laptop receives it ? I’m so mixed up now I’m going for a sleep

The laptop is basically just a screen attached to the iPad. So yeah, you will see on the laptop what you do on the iPad.

I’m just finding that apples music player on the pad seems to push st3 off. I’ll try and explain a bit better later thanks

This is what i get, st3 is running, I drag down top right, if I push the logo top right, it loads the apple music player.

Maybe I need to update newest iOS. 17.3 is waiting for me, but I’m happy as my gear is.

ive just looked at apples web site, i dont think streaming to ones pc from a pad has ever been an option, i must have imagined it .but that app you suggested works instantly,

I might have spoke too soon, it seems that air server only works for me when I’m connected to the WWW. It doesn’t run on my private network at the moment and still I find that Apple Music wants to muscle in and close st3.

Are you sure about that? iPad and the Macbook need to be in the same network but you certainly don't need a internet connection.

There’s definitely an issue with airplay in general I think. I asked my friend to try st3 via airplay to his Mac mini, the pad sees the Mac as a destination but there’s no sound despite it saying it’s connected. He pushed the play button on the airplay icon, and just like I said it loads Apple Music on the pad and streams it perfectly. I’ll give airserver another go and see if it’s my error.

What I found was that if you start on a server connected to the internet, the computer and pad connect easily, you can then change networks and the devices reconnect, however I failed to get it to work when there’s no internet.

So thanks Peter, I’ll give it another go next week.

I have the same issue as RichSykes. I select an AirPlay device and other apps play through that device but not ST3. It just plays through my iPad speakers. Thanks.

Hi Pete, that’s the common issue I think, I deleted Apple Music and it kills the option to airplay completely. With relation to windows, I’m not sure if the pc was ever a destination for your iPad ?

Hm, I don't know what exactly changed. But I see the issue now on my iOS17 devices. Selecting the Airplay destination in control center has no effect on Stage Traxx.

On iOS16 everything works the way it always did. The Airplay icon is still displayed in ST3 setting beside the volume slider and selecting an Airplay destination there or in control center works.

So I guess this is a bug in iOS17.

I found something buried deep in Apples documentation. The Route button has been removed from iOS17 and replaced with a new component dedicated to select remote audio destinations.

I will see if I can use the new component to switch routes in iOS17. If it works, it will be part of the next update.
