screen mirroring with multitrack playback issues

Hi Peter, the issue I'm having is this - I'm connecting my ipad to a Behringer xr-18 mixer for multitrack playback. Then I'm attempting to screen mirror the ipad to my windows PC. The app I use for screen mirroring is "aircast" which connects the two devices through a wifi connection. As soon as I activate screen mirroring Stagetraxx 3 disconnects from the mixer in the audio routing settings. I'm not sure what would cause this?

I believe this app uses Airplay for mirroring, right? Airplay always sends video and audio to the destination. So it disconnects the connected audio interface. But iOS always uses the last connected interface, so it might work to first start mirroring and then connect your audio interface. I haven't tried that though.

I did try activating screen mirroring first but it didn't work. So my next question would be is it possible to connect the ipad with a lightning cable to the xr-18 and also connect to an external monitor?

I think there are lightning adapters that have both a usb and a hdmi port. Although you could run into the same issue as hdmi does also count as an audio interface. No go with that solution. HDMI will also grab the audio output. So the only solution would be an hdmi audio extractor (small box between iPad and monitor).

I have one more idea. I would use 2 ipads. 1 ipad would host a session and connect to the xr-18 for multitrack output. The 2nd ipad would join the session and connect to the external monitor. Do you think this configuration would work?

mikeroberts3 I've done this using a phone to connect to the external monitors. Works well!
