backroadrider if you have set 4 minutes on one PDF , i assume it will take ages for it to move through that 4 minutes on one pdf page especially if your page only drops down half a page ,
I am no expert on PDF control, as i find using .txt files is much more flexible especially if all you need are lyrics and chords, if you require notation then PDFs is your only solution, but its very clunky and time consuming to create , and doesn't give you lots of freedom to move around like using loops to simply go to a specific spot in your lyrics, also line automation is very fast and simple to create plus if you have chords and you change pitch all your chords change to suit , this is not possible with PDFs, it all depends what your needs are and how capable you are at changing old work practices.
After playing around i found if you load a PDF in to a stereo song file, you don't get automated scrolling , i assume you must use a foot pedal or your fingers to scroll through the PDFs as you play, i also have loaded in to a Lyrics only song a 3 page pdf and set it to 3 minutes , again no automated movement and in stop mode i moved the waveform area to scroll around the 3 minute time selection and i get no PDF movement of position, so i can confirm that PDF scrolling is not possible using the waveform area or any automation, which makes it a very limiting method of having lyrics as you cant simply control the positioning. This could be a bug but i don't know as i never used PDF before.
Good luck
I am totally confused by the blue song volume fader , why is it there? It does nothing as there is no audio , that would be a great fader to scroll through the PDFs view as its below the screen so you would not block your lyrics with your hand as you manually scroll around,
Just a thought, it would be also nice to be able to attach a timecode on top of every PDF Page so you can have easy control of page selection just like loops but designed to flip to any page quickly by choosing the appropriate time stamp thats dedicated to every PDF page start and for it to look like loops as we know them , and the editing to be the same as text lyrics, except you are attaching a timecode so if your song was 4 minutes and you had 4 PDF pages you simply attach a timecode at 1 minute intervals which would give you 4 large loop segments which represent pages from 1 to 4, this would allow easy access to any part of the song while performing and it maintains the same operational logic as auto text and chord in stereo/multitrack songs.
There should be only two song types
Stereo/ with lyrics/pdf
Multitrack with lyrics/pdf
The fact you don't put in an audio file as backing should not matter if you only use Text/pdf that is your choice on import, and even after its created you could change the song type by removing the audio files or by removing pdf you end up with text only song if you load a pdf then it becomes a pdf song, if you load an audio track depending if you choose to operate as stereo or multitrack that then attaches itself to the text or pdf thats already present.
This creates a very simple to create and understand system that would be more united to work together and not be slit up in all directions which operates in different ways depending on the file format you are working with.
Ok I've Said enough for now but i believe i have pointed this out ages ago but it seems like nothing is improving from making ST3 very fast and efficient to operate at home, it does a great job on stage now it needs to be improved to work for us at home while prepping or creating new material.
But i believe you are across this Peter and you probably have something up your sleve already,
So have a wonderful day and keep on rockn 🎸🎤🕺💃
