Firstly i dont use multitrack in its existing form as it does nothig extra for me that a stereo file does.
Thats not to say its not a good idea, in actual fact i would use it if it was more logical to use and faster to setup and much more user friendly and helpful on stage while performing.
Never the less i have my reasons to give feedback on it as i was a heavy user of midi in the old days and still am when creating my backing tracks.
What i would like is to be able to have 16 audio mono tracks to be able to output to any 16 outputs or one stereo output , if outputting to stereo a pan to be included for final positioning of the mono track, so when i create my 16 midi tracks i can easily convert them to audio and bulk transfer these audio tracks directly to ST3 for easy no fuss playback, all in one transfer.
16 chanel of midi has been a standard for years , why not make it easy to use a DAW to edit compile to maximum of 16 tracks , in one shot export as audio files directly to 16 Tracks in ST3 and just get on with performing.
If you than have a digital mixer with multi chanel digital inputs like an xair 18 you simply can have 16 individual outs or a stereo out to feed the PA with whatever you require , but the standard setting is the single stereo out for those that need only a simple setup.
You then can have 16 tracks to do whatever you need with, every track can be asigned to stereo out and panned or to an individual output to be used as click track or seperate groups can be established , have the ability to create stereo tracks like the xair does where you can have tracks 1 and 2 to be stereo tracks 3 and 4 to be mono 5 and 6 stereo and so on.
This then gives us very simple and logical understanding to what is going on and some sort of a standard to follow.
Whats important to me is to be able to mute or solo these channels as im performing so i can create dynamics and variations of sound to please the audience without this multitrack is not utilized to its full potential, its like having looping capability without beeing able to jump around the loops while performing , its pointless.
So firstly i want to see some standard followed when using multitracks and secondly i want it to be fully utilized while performing.
I have a vision for multitrack use that is greater than the one we are using now, i know Peter has done a fantastic job to get us this amazing capability as is, and technology might not be as powerful as we might think, but my vision of multitrack is spured on by my need on stage and a wish to spend less time creating multitracks to use as backing.
This is not a reguest Peter its just my wishful thinking put to writing.
Had another great gig yesterday , it just keeps getting better , thanks again to ST3.
Cheers Damir
