Could the midi commands be used to trigger lighting software. The lighting software I have can be triggered by midi but you have to set the software in a ready state the usually push a button or move a slider to let the software assign that signal to that button.
If Stagetraxx can send the midi signal do you think it would be read the same way?

I am not sure I did understand the question. Stage Traxx can send MIDI but if these MIDI commands are understood by your lighting software is not something I can tell.

To trigger the lighting software at the moment I use an APC Mini. I set the lighting software to the 'learn' state and press a pad on the APC, the software then stores that at links it to the light.
I know Stagetraxx can now sent midi data but I'm unsure how to write in what any software including the lighting one would need when it wants to write in the midi control number itself using a 'learn' mode.

Sorry if I've explained it in a round about way.

I am using MIDI commands in stage trax to control patch changes in Rocktron Guitar amp, Roland XV-5050 for EWI, EMU Proteus and 360 Systems midi bass, and a TC-Helicon Harmonizer, each on a different midi channel. Its simply a matter of matching the midi channel of the lighting controller with the midi commands you are entering. In my experience with an American DJ DMX Operator light controller, rather than using midi program change messages, they use a Note On command to trigger a specific scene in the light controller. My advice is to check the manual for your light controller. It should be no different than sending a note-on / note-off message to a standard midi keyboard.

JDSMUSIC hi, yes you're right note on or note off is probably the answer. I think my problem is I can't input the command to the software it's a 'learn' button. Once you press a button on the APC the DMX software generates its own number. Or are you suggesting I can send a note on message from Stagetraxx ? Is it possible with the same note on message the software will be able to differentiate between them?

If you already have a setup running with the APC Mini, I would suggest you should send the same MIDI commands in Stage Traxx that the APC Mini does. This way you would not need to reconfigure your lighting software if you want to switch from Stage Traxx to APC and back.

peter this may be the better way although I'd need to set any new things on the APC first then transfer the generated numbers in the dmx software back to Stagetraxx.

DMX has its own protocol and the DMX commands are sent thru a DMX cable or wireless DMX transmitter to a wireless DMX receiver. My ADJ controller has a MIDI input connector as well as the standard DMX output. You would have to use an iPAD midi interface and connect it to the MIDI port of your DMX controller. When StageTraxx sends a midi command to the MIDI interface of the light controller, the light controller would then convert that to the corresponding DMX commands to your lights.

JDSMUSIC When you say "When StageTraxx sends a midi command to the MIDI interface of the light controller..." do you mean that stage traxx would have to send a midi command to another program running on the ipad, or is the Light Controller a physical unit that light is connected to? Have you tried yourself to control lighting directly from the stage traxx software by sending midi commands JDS?

Hello, friends! I know time is short for all of us, but i'm going to ask it anyway, ok?
Im pretty new in the MIDI universe, and i'm trying to understand how to do the MIDI automation on stage traxx to trigger my Roland GR-55.
I,ve read the manual but I'm still pretty lost on it... I'm sorry for my ignorance, but could anybody make some kind of a quick step by step tutorial to help me with this?

So what do you want to do with the GR-55. Maybe if you tell me which midi command you want send, I can show you how to write it in Stage Traxx notation.

I play guitar with the GR-55 over backing tracks triggered by stage traxx.
what I would like to do is to automate my user banks , and also trigger some commands inside the banks.
for example my user bank 01-1 is a clean guitar by default, if hit the crtl button on the GR-55 it turns on a tube screamer overdrive in the same bank.
so i would like to automate a clean guitar for the intro and the verse, and I would like it to turn on the overdrive automatically on the chorus.

If this kind of situation doent work, i could make a a second bank (02-1) for the overdrive.

I guess this should be possible. Just tell me which MIDI commands the GR-55 expects to switch banks and turn on the ctrl button. I will then write up the midi strings for you.

It depends on the light controller. For example I use an “American DJ Operator” that has a Midi input jack. Using a wireless Midi interface on my ipad running stage stage tracks it sends patch changes to my midi rack of keyboard synth, guitar synth. Running a midi cable from the Midi Thru port of one of them to the ADJ midi commands (note on/off) can be used to change show.

JDSMUSIC That sounds fantastic! sorry I didn't see your reply until now. I may grab myself the same controller. I take it you first create Scenes, using the controller and then send midi notes to trigger those scenes? How many scenes/banks can the controller store? Is there any chance you could send me a few examples of how the midi code actually looks for those lighting commands (within the Stage Traxx lyrics page)? I've figured out program changes but never note on-note off commands. Thanks

Here is the page from the DMX Operator Manual. Each bank hold 8 scenes and there are 16 banks.

An example of a Stage Trax embedded command to switch scenes might look like:
At start of song... switch on scene 1 which is cool blue scene
[midi: 00:00.00: ,n126@1,n0@1]
Then at chorus, change to scene 2 which is a hot amber scene at time code 30 seconds into song
[midi: 00:30.00: ,n126@1,n5@1]

I am controlling a Chauvet Gig Bar that has LED Wash, Movers, Lasers, and a Strobe. For example I have
my scenes in bank one defined as follows:

Scene1 = Wash LEDs blue
Scene2 = Wash LEDs Blue + Movers
Scene3 = Wash LEDs Blue + Movers + Laser
Scene4 = ALL OFF (black out)
Scene5 = Wash Leds Amber
Scene6 = Was LEDs Amber + Movers
Scene7 = Wash LEDs Amber + Movers + Laser
Scene9 = All Off and Strobe on
