Crossfade feature

Hi Peter and everyone

I haven't been able to find this so I'm assuming you can't do it but with the cross fade feature is there a way to start the next track while the previous one keeps playing rather than fading ? that way I can start my next songs click while the end of the previous song is still playing

A workaround for this might need some experimenting with fade times but a very short one should allow you to use crossfade with no perceived “fade”

That's not possible. You can only start the next track full volume while the current is fading out. What you want is actually to play both tracks at full volume. So it is more like a overlap instead of a crossfade. Right?

Yes correct Peter, I tried Jaytrax suggestion but it doesn't do what I need , it still fades the previous song.
Could u add this feature in a future release Peter ?

I might suggest adding an extra bar of silence and try the fade out method again

If using the auto trim feature, this by design, not only cuts silence of the start but also the end,
You may already have enough silence at the end of the track, so manually adding 1 or 2 seconds on the parameter for song ending should work with the cross fade option

From a technical point of view it would be no problem to implement. But I struggle how to offer this in the app settings. It is clearly related to the fade out parameter in the crossfade section. But I am at a loss how to add it there without confusing most users.

This a feature I am VERY interested in. Considering it's usage...I would think it is a separate item from Crossfade. OVERLAP is probably a better term. Peter, I know you have been beyond helpful in making ST3 fantastic...but I certainly would love to see this implemented.
I believe most people would be very troubled to take every song in the repertoire and add 1-2 seconds at the end or top in order to accommodate Crossfades that aren't to sudden or to slow or aesthetically unpleasing. It seems to me it should be an OVERLAP that can be programmed into each song, to make sure it will sound right.
Peter, and everyone...what do you think?

GtrGeorge I agree with your thinking , as far as the users are concerned we don’t want or need to worry about adjusting our files to suit we just want a quick result that works , how technically it does this is beyond all of us musicians , so the question is can ST3 technically play two sound files at the same time to create a perfect Xfade without adjusting lengths of files.
Only Peter and perhaps few other users know the answer.
I know of other software that can play multiple files at the same time and I suppose multitrack is playing multiple files at the same time so I can’t see why not have a perfect xfade or overlap whatever you want to call it.

ST3 already plays two songs at the same time during crossfades. An overlap is technically the same without a fade. So this is certainly possible but I need to find a way to add it to the crossfade settings without confusing most users.

Adding the time as a song property is certainly helpful but I this requires more changes in Stage Traxx so that is more likely a todo for version 4.
