  • ST3 to Neural DSP Quad Cortex

I am able to send PC messages - works like a breeze, but not the clock sync to Quad Cortex. I am using USB cable from laptop to QC. Effectively, I am not able to change the tempo of effects in QC and that takes away 3/4 of the reason to use ST3.

However I am able to send clock to QC from Mainstage.

Please help.

Have you enabled midi clock in ST3 settings? Keep in mind that the clock signal is only sent while playback is running.

Some additional QC information for you when using ST3 via USB cable. I was using Program Change messages from ST3 to my QC via USB cable and after a while the QC would stop working with no sound coming out, power still on but not working. I found it was the USB cable for midi to be the issue. I have since purchased a Bluetooth WIDI adaptor to use the midi ports and everything works just fine now.
Also I found that using the USB cable can result in the QC overriding the the iPad audio if using bluetooth as the QC wants to act as the audio device for the iPad.
Using midi cables or WID bluetooth fixes both these issues.
    I hope this helps someone.

dazz4770 thank you for your reply.
The issue happens with ST3 from Mac too. However the same cable works with mainstage on Mac and other iPad app. Seemingly is a ST3 issue.

peter that’s for clock out - my use case is QC not receiving clock from ST3 but the PC CC commands like a breeze

dazz4770 the same cable is able to send PC CC to QC, unable to send the clock sync

Which BLE widi adapter you have used and please suggest any specific config in the iPad/QC to make it work?

I use the CME Widi Master but I don't know how well that works with midi clock.

Hi Guys, Sorry to ask such a basic question. I have the Quad Cortex and a Bluetooth Widi Jack and I would like to change Patches, Scenes etc automatically during a song with Stage Traxx3 on iPad. I just cannot make it work at all. I have watched Scott Uhl's channel on YouTube where he demonstrates this using his HX Stomp and he simply clicks the footswitches on the HX Stomp and it registers on the App. For reference, this is the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5IIrmJWKJ8&t=370s It's at the 5:25 minute mark. I have followed his instructions but it doesn't work for me. I see the message "Waiting for MIDI events..." but when I press the switches on the Quad Cortex nothing happens! Is it possible to do this with the Quad Cortex? Am I missing something? If so would someone mind pointing out the key settings required on both the Quad Cortex and Stage Traxx3 for iPad to make it work. Thank You in advance.

I don't know if the QC can send midi commands when you press a button. But you can surely program midi commands manually in ST3.

Craig you can send midi on the QC but the messages aren’t already embedded into the footswitch like they are in the hx stomp. Depending on how many presets you have would depend on the best way to do this.
You could set up the scene/stomp select on the QC to correspond to its specific CC message. I.e. in the preset midi out settings on the QC you would enter CC#35 with any value under switch A, 36 for B, 37 for C and so on.
You could then use the midi learn function in the lyrics editor and it would send the right message as you went through the song. You would have to set this up on every preset which depending on how many you have could be time consuming.
Or you could add them manually like Peter suggested.

Thank you for responding so quickly.
Peter and Lishy you are spot on.
Lishy, I have gone with your suggestion and it works very well. You have saved a lot of head scratching! So thank you very much.
