Hi Peter

Firstly let me say how much I love the AP - thank you !!!

I am a singer / guitarist and have been playing professionally for about 50 years. I have been using backing tracks since about 1982.

I am in the process of converting across to Stage Traxx from On-song in preparation for our 9 month Australian East Coast tour.

I will be using an Airturn BT200 S4 to control my 9th Gen iPad - it works well. I have assigned “Stop/Start Playback”, “Open/Close Player View” and “Next Song” to three of my switches however I would like to be able to assign “Previous song” to the forth switch. it seems odd that this function is not available.

Is there any possibility that a “Previous Song” function could be added to the assign actions tab ???

thanks Tony

Hookey ‘move selection up’ is effectively the same thing as previous song as this is what I also use on my footswitch

I guess I should rename "Next song" because it does not do what most people expect. It will move to the next song in the queue which is not necessarily the next song in the list you are seeing on the screen. So I would suggest to change your "Next song" action to "Selection down" and then also add "Selection up".

peter I am trying to step backwards and forwards through the playlist. the scenario is if I am playing through a playlist and I decide that I dont want to play the next song, i can open the list using the air turn and then select another one from the list all from the air turn. When I am set up on stage I can't reach the iPad to scroll through manually. thanks Tony

In that case use "Selection Up" and "Selection Down".

Hookey i can open the list using the air turn and then select another one from the list all from the air turn

Why do you need to open the list?
My side list is always open and I still get a good display of lyrics using landscape on a 10.5 inch iPad font size anywhere from 42 to 50, this then reduces the need for one button and it allows me instant selection of next song using foot pedal commands selection up selection down, the interface never changes all my songs are present in the playlist so I don’t have to leave it until I have a break , and this I will now change as I will place all my break music in one song as one long multiple song background music, and have multiples of different background songs which I can easily select by foot up down when needed.
This minimises the foot pedal switch requirements giving me other more needed control like tempo or audio mute so I can manipulate the audience by foot.
Not needing to change playlists or screens everything is at my instant disposal and nothing changes through my performances all I need to worry about is what’s my next song or break music.
This then gives me more relaxed time with the audience and the feeling of never fear ST3 is here🤪

Thanks Damir - I guess I'm just used to On-Song and I don't like too much clutter on my screen. I really like the fact that I can see the next song displayed in the top bar though. It would be great if I could make the font size in the sidebar list smaller and have the side bar take up less of the screen (it is almost 1/3 of the screen in landscape mode).

Great tip about the break music in one song

I really love Stage Traxx !!

Hookey i assume you know you can adjust the space the song list takes by tap holding and dragging on the arrow on the side of the playlist to adjust the space it takes up of your screen.
The good thing about having it displayed at all times is you can foot choose your next song without any effort or just scroll with your fingers if it becomes really urgent, but you don't need to open up extra screens, and once you get use to it you almost feel venerable without it.
              Cheers Damir

Yes thats all great , but what happens when last moment you have a request for a better next song or you discover what you thought was a good next song is a disaster song to play next and you need to change it last moment, having the playlist open at all times is a must for me as i read the crowd and either stay on my planned path as its working well or i am continually changing next song as its not apropriate what i planned but no big deal i can skip songs or choose complete new songs on the run as i have my playlist in view and my foot controller to get to the next song without the audience having any idea .

Damir I might implement this. How do you create and where do you import your one long file of break songs from?
Do you set up audio regions so you can switch to next song via footswitch on the fly?

Lishy I might implement this. How do you create and where do you import your one long file of break songs from?

Hi Lishy, here is how i run my gigs.
I only use stereo files as i am a solo act, i don't require a click track as i have always got a visual click , like my lyrics are time coded line synced so this in itself is enough to keep me in line plus you have the backing track , wherever i need a long silent break i put in a visual count on screen, this is great as it means i run very simply my audio files are all instant start and very short endings allowing for natural decay time , i create loops to all my songs from beginning to end so there is never a section that is not in a loop , this gives me plenty of options to get around songs using foot pedal , most of my songs have 8 to 12 loops in them.
I create new gigs from my master playlist which contains all my 360 songs all in alphabetical name order initially, then what i do is create a new gig playlist and place the 50 songs i intend to perform in order i will play them and leave the 51 to 360 songs in alphabetical order, what this does is a number of things, it provides me with reasonably organised order of the evening but it still allows me to easily find any other songs i might want all in the same playlist, so my foot control can work to select all my songs without changing playlists or going to song mode to search, at worst if i am desperate i can easily finger scroll to alphabetically find my next unexpected song.
The only time i needed to leave my playlist was when taking a break, i would choose another playlist for that which all the songs were in autoplay , but now i am changing this as well so i don't have to leave my playlist at all, i intend to create a 1 hour songs which will contain numerous songs of particular styles to and name them BREAK TIME! 1, BREAK TIME ! 2 etc. or perhaps BREAK TIME! slow, BREAK TIME, Fast etc
Then use these songs just like my backing tracks whenever i need a break just place the BREAK TIME! File in to my playlist order, set the volume of these songs @-10db which will be a safe starting point or whatever your needs are.
You now never need to leave your playlist and everything is foot controllable without ever touching the device , you can mix in and out of your BREAK TIME! Whenever you choose.

You also have 12 loop points in your break music you can jump around or perhaps just have 1 BREAK TIME! Song for everything and create 12 one hour segments of music , place them in to 12 loops name them colour them and place them as permanent loops now you only ever need to select that one song for a break which could give you 12 styles of background music to choose from , it means the file will be 12 hours long but who cares once it is loaded just choose the loop you need hit play and walk away when you come back your next first song is selected hit mix and you are off without a hustle.

To create the long song you just keep loading the DAW with songs in a stereo track in one hour or perhaps half hour chunks till you have all 12 segments full, then name and export file BREAK TIME! File and load it in to ST3 and recreate the 12 loops and its done for ever more, you can always change and update this song as time goes by but its only background music so its not critical, you don't want great songs to be on that list as it might make your song performance list look bad 🤪
Hope this helps cheers to all Damir

Damir dude next time give the short answer, i only wanted to know the last paragraph! 🤣

Lishy sorry, you are right, but the reason I give a lot of information is that other total newbies might find some parts eye opening and it will save them time to get on a better way to use ST3 , even though I’ve been with ST3 from birth I am still learning from others to do things slightly better, you can never know too much,
So good luck with the Break time idea let us know how it works if you use it I will start creating it very soon but haven’t got a gig for a while .
That’s a big problem in society now days no one explains things precisely all instruction manuals give you suck egg information no precise details everyone is too busy to read and everything is abbreviated.
Oops I did it again! Isn’t that a song?
                      Cheers Damir
