TIP: Be Careful Plugging your iPAD into a Mixing Console.

DO NOT make the mistake of using a 3.5 mini plug to XLR Y cable. If someone accidently enables phantom power on either of the channels it will FRY the sound components on your ipad motherboard. I did this about 3 years ago, the sound became very distorted. I thought it was the jack so I took the ipad in for repair, they replaced the jack which did not fix the problem.

If you need to do this use a DI box which electrically isolates the iPAD from the console. I use a HOSA pigtail along with a standard 1/4 insert cable.

Good tip. Always use line inputs without phantom power or even better, a DI or isolation box.

Forgot to mention the reason I was using the XLR at all was to send the signals to remote console via a 50 snake. Expensive mistake, I was able to sell the old iPAD as is on craigslist for $180, which helped the cost of a new one!

Recently I have added the Apple 3.5 mm headphone dongle that some use for the iPhone 7, 8 and X. This plugs directly into the lightning port and into the 3.5 mm connector on my LSP-1.
This not only gives you a balanced input but also a volume control and a way to just disconnect from the lightning connector without worrying about the front of house channel being open.
It has really worked well.
