Dropbox or itunes

Hi Peter. I use both Dropbox and i tunes with Stage Traxx.
Which one do you recommend as best?

Also tracks downloaded from Dropbox are stored as local files. Where are they?
Are the taking up space in the App itself or are they in a database.

Mike, ST3 will always copy files into the app. So in the future there is only one way to store files and that is as local files within the app. You can still import tracks from iTunes but they will be copied into the app. Files within the app (also in ST2) are stored as files and not within the database. You can see them in iTunes filesharing and with ST3 also in the Files App.

Advantages of this approach:

No longer problems with iTunes changing file paths to access tracks
Backups with iTunes now also contain the song files. So you can be sure that after restoring an iPad backup you can start using ST where you left of. You no longer need to restore your playlists in iTunes separately.
ST3 Backup files now also contain the song files. Restoring a backup will therefore also restore your tracks in one go.

How do i get to this within ST3

It will open up automatically whenever you tap on the + icon in the song list or restore a backup.

This is regarding orig StageTrax not ST3. For about 2 weeks I have been having erratic issues with songs that have been working mysteriously becoming red. I edit it in the playlist and select Repair Link then after finding song in either the Songs or Playlist, I get "Unexpected Error Could not open audio file".

I go into itunes and the file plays perfectly. So I resync and I guess it sees no changes so doesnt fix it. So In iTunes I opened the SongInfo and made a change to the track number. Resync and it syncs but repairing link results in the same error. I find that sometimes if I delete the file in iTunes, then drag the mp3 file from windows file manger back into itunes to link it. Then sync it fixes it. BUT... seems each time I sync I see it syncing song# that I know I have not touched! This is driving me nuts. I just copied all my 507 files into a new Dropbox folder. In ST I linked dropbox. Created a new folder ALL Tracks and did Add Files and selected Local Files. It does not see them?

I even deleted ST from the iPad and re-installed.

Any ideas?

P.S. I am hoping soon that ST3 will be out so I can eliminate iTunes from the picture and use Google Drive. I can use mp3tag to store the lyrics in the file.

The way iTunes treats updates to songs and decides which song to sync to your iPad is generally a mystery. You can force a sync of a song by making edits to its tags but you can't ensure that an unchanges song will not get synced.

You first need to download these song from Dropbox into Stage Traxx. After they have been downloaded, they will be visible as local files.

You can also do that via iTunes filesharing which will be faster as nothing is transfered over the internet in that case.

On a whim, I went into iPad Settings manage storage, clicked music and deleted the entire library.
Reconnected to PC and iTunes synced all playlists/songs into a new library. Launched ST and rebuilt my playlists. Testing now but so far so good.

If I download ST3 will my original ST be incorporated?

ST3 is a seperate app. You can keep using version 2 in parallel.
