peter Scroll position only follows the playhead when you have no region selected. When you have a region selected and are zoomed in, there is no automatic scrolling with the playhead.
And that’s a problem as well, if you are zoomed in and playing the song with no loop selection the playhead is followed now if you want to scroll to another area of the song to select a loop you can’t, the playhead forces you to stay with it, you either have to stop play then move to new position or you have to zoom out to then choose a new selection, this is slow frustrating workflow, when I am zoomed in to a point I am comfortable with I expect to be able to move around to choose my loop of choice without zooming out then in again or having to stop play then moving to new location, I just expect to flick to new position and the playhead to be ignored then when I am happy I have found my new place of interest use the timeline to call up the playhead and keep on working if I want the playhead to to be followed I just hit stop and start this activates the follow playhead and as long as I don’t touch any gestures it will follow the playhead but as soon as I decide to do anything the playhead is automatically ignored again, this logic allows us to just get on with the job of creating loops instead of fighting with the playhead all the time.
Further improvement would be to also use the same logic in selected loops .
When you select a loop and play it, the playhead is followed unless you touch any gesture’s which means you expect to do something different and you don’t care about the playhead anymore , so playhead! just go on and do your thing and let me do my thing when I want you I will call you back using timeline and if I want to follow you I will stop / start to get you to be followed, thank you very much, don’t bother me when I am trying to complete my own thing, i am in the editor to create loops and not to follow you , i get to do that in song mode.
If I am zoomed in and I scroll to mid loop if I then select that loop and hit play I expect my view to jump to the playhead and follow it in the zoomed in position until I touch any other gesture like PINCH ,SCROLL,ZOOM, then I expect to stop following the playhead.
This logic works for you instead of continually fighting you.
You have less to do to get the job done.
