Hi to everyone and Dear Peter!

I am using Stage Traxx 2 from 2013 and it is working great for me and my duo.
I decide to move to 3rd version this year and invested to iPad Pro. After so many troubles with trying to find the files in older one it was a big luck that all files stayed in 4 Dropboxes and my iTines library in old laptop. I have sent them all to iCloud where I spend two weeks to reduce them from 1,2 to 9 hundred and I was carefully cleaning, changing the names of the files making them to look very ‘’nice’’ by my opinion. Later I have sent the backup from old iPad to iCloud and create a Stage traxx3 folder in my new iPad with all the songs I needed. But.. when I load the back up I saw my folders full with 80 % red missing files. First this doesn’t made me to worry, because in Stage Traxx 2 was easy to substitute missing, red file only with one click with the place where it is.
But here in Version 3 I can’t do this…is it possible?
The program says “‘restore the file”. I can’t…
How?

Thank you!

Donny

I also downloaded the new beta version, but doesn’t saw function like this.
    Maybe I am missing something…

Donny hi Donny, simply put, the new system has its own files within it which you can access and manipulate, the old system did not so it always looked for the files wherever they were.
So all you have to do is make sure you locate all your files you need and copy them over to ST3 folder. Check out the instruction manual as you can do this in different ways.
The new system has no need to search and recover function because the files are always in ST3 folder if not it means you deleted them, this is much better then always hunting for them all over the place.
You can easily get to ST3 folder in settings near backup files area.
    Hope this helps.

    Thank you ,Damir,

All the files are there bur clean - without eq settings, lyrics an etc. The files from backup are also here in red and I am copying by hand all their attributes. For 900 it is a lot of time to waste. What to to - sometimes it is not a good habit to have everything in good order …hahahaha

Most likely the problem is that you renamed the files. The backup from version 2 only contains the file names and version 3 tries to load the audio files with the stored filename and fails because you renamed them.

    You have two options:

    a) Copy the contents of you Stage Traxx 2 folder on the iPad via iTunes filesharing to your computer and then to the Stage Traxx 3 folder on your iPad.
    b) If you want to work with the renamed files, replace the all files in Stage Traxx 2 with the renamed files and correct the link to the file for each song. After that, create a backup and restore that in version 3.

    Thank you, Peter,

It’s a good idea to go back with all files to version 2 and to replace them. I am a bit afraid cause this iPad is hardly used in gigs and if something happened it will open twice work for me. I also think to reload all files again in new folder with their original ‘’ugly’’ names and to open back up file again in Stage Traxx 3. But someone can see me right now how I am loading and substituting file by file ….all the songs.

    Hahaha!!!

    Donny

I would not care about ugly filenames. You can rename the title and artist info in ST3 so I don't really know why you should care about the filename.

peter yes you can rename it but it does not rename the original file name it still is displayed as the original file name, which is something that’s frustrated me originally, This is another reason why I like using Twisted Wave app before ST3, it easily tweaks the front and back end of songs , normalises songs, renames the songs to suit, and many more features you need to maintain some order of your files so by the time ST3 gets the files it only needs to minimally be used to fine tune things.
ST3 is a great player, which is all that’s expected. Changing names in ST3 folder stuffs up the database so it’s not a great place to change names of songs, so I don’t rename my files in ST3 folder once they are loaded, if for some reason I have to , I make sure I have all my synced lyrics stored outside ST3 so when I do change the name I can easily copy and paste in to the new names file , this is slow but it can be done with care, otherwise it can create a lot of work especially if you have hundreds of songs.

It would be great if once you change the name of the song in the actual ST3 folder it also updates all the database naming so everything changes to the new updated name of song.

But I can live with it there are bigger fish to fry.

Damir No way Stage Traxx could detect filename changes outside of the app. Only thing it sees is that a file is no longer accessible with the name stored in Stage Traxx.

Yes I know this, I was just explaining to Donny who obviously likes to keep his song files tidy like myself that once you commit to a song File name and enter this song to ST3 you can no longer change this File name without causing a problem, but you can rename the Song title within ST3.
So my advice to Donny is get your song File name you want to see in File to be correct before you place it in to ST3 and then forget it.
          Be careful,
If you go in to ST3 folder itself and change the song file you will loose any database for that song and will have to redo all your work.
So be very careful with what you do or you could create yourself a lot of work by forcefully changing File names. I tried this and discovered it to be a painful process I only do this when my Filenames are absolutely confusing or clashing.

The ideal situation would be that your File name is always the same as the Song name and any changes made to song including its Title in ST3 updates to the File name and everything is always in sync. The File name is the leader of the pack and everything else relates to it, this then eliminates any confusion and creates full flexibility. What you see is what you get.
At the moment having File name displayed in settings is more of a nuisance as you can’t do anything with it and it just frustrates you if it’s badly named, it’s like beeing a kid in a candy store with tight ass parents.

Well, the reason to rename the files has many sides, even the best is to keep them as they are. But during the gig especially when you are making big party with shouting and dancing people you have to be very fast with finding the next song. For example I never know what song is next and if I am looking for Village people YMCA, but my file name is Y.M.C.A and even I know now for points in the name in the club with high adrenaline of mine I am searching YMCA and can’t find anything….

Stage Traxx only displays the filenames as a fallback if you have no title set. You can rename the title in Stage Traxx in song details and then that is exactly what will be displayed.

A tip if you have different spelling options for a song: Just write all spelling options into the artist field. Then you can use the searchbox and it will show the song with whatever spelling option you enter.

Yes, I just found it and I will follow your tip. Now it is great for searching in tense moments!!!
