I know Peter is hard at work creating this new feature weāve all been wanting for years, but I thought Iād talk about my needs and perhaps open a worthwhile discussion so we donāt end up disappointed.
I think having six loop points in a song is all thatās required otherwise itās too much if you have more as you have to remember what your loops actually are to make it workable, plus six points of looping fits on an AirTurn 6 switch pedal nicely, you can dedicate one pedal for looping only and another to control ST3, but if you only want a simple one pedal with stop start then you still have 5 looping points available, intro, verse1, chorus, verse2, ending, so thatās perfect for most songs.
Some users might only ever need the Ending point so they can quickly shorten the song this leaves them 5 control switches, so I believe sex is the best.
The operation of switching between the loops is very important so you feel you are in complete control, my thinking is there should be three modes of operation on all the switches, single tap selects the next loop and plays through the now playing loop and switches to next loop, a quick double tap on new loop point leaves the now playing loop but at the end of the playing bar to neatly transition immediately to new loop, this allows people that only use one loop point like Ending to neatly transition at the end of any bar to the end point, this to me is very important as I can neatly leave anywhere in the song to another loop point, this creates very powerful control.
Third option on this button is a long press allowing you to edit your loop point, Name, in point, out point etc.
This allows simple users to only use one touch to choose the next loop, but also allows more advanced users to have the ability to get around the song very precisely using the double tap.
Now this would apply to the interface itself so if you didnāt have a foot pedal you could do this in the segmented waveform area.
Long press on the waveform area opens a window to create new looping point or to delete a loop point a maximum of six loops allowed, once a loop point is created a long press on this loop opens the edit loop window.
Loop points can be dragged around in the waveform area to create a new song order structure.
Thatās my thoughts as to how I would introduce looping , now how to get this is another thing, but hopefully Peter can pull out something out of the hat that looks like a š.
Any other thoughts? Please add it to the list so we donāt get disappointed with the end results.
Good luck Peter hope things arenāt too hard for you, canāt wait for this feature that I wanted 10 years ago.
