We're a hobby band of 5-8 musicians and singers and we decided to test ST3 for lyrics, setlists and show-control.
Setup
At the moment we use a MacBook 15 ”with external display as host, a Ipad 6, Ipad mini 4 and a Iphone 12 mini, and also a Mac mini at home where I do most of editing and preparation and they all have the latest versions of MacOS, iPadOS and iOS.
For rehearsal and evaluation of the system we use an old TV connected to my MacBook, where the singers can read the lyrics.
The drummer plan to use his Iphone to read the song titles only. The guitarist will try to setup his ipad to send midi to his effect pedal to change preset and the Macbook show lyrics, send program change to change MainStage scene and also to stage light.
I will order a Airturn pedal of some kind for stage usage and I think the whole band will soon have their own Ipad’s and join the network session.
We don't intend to use the audio tracks for now, but don't never ever say "never ever"!
First impression
We are all amazed at the ease of use of ST3. We have tried a some similar apps before but never got comfortable with them.
The Network Session is stunning.
With "local files" every one can do their own version of the lyrics, chords, notations, midi commands, pdf's or whatever.. and still join the network session.
ST3 seems stable and trustable. No hassle at all!
At first we thought that "getting feeling" and extending a guitar solo or do two extra refrains to sing with the audience would cause problems when the app to will go to next song and change lyrics and preset to synths etc.. But then I found that by extending the length of the songs over what will be ever possible to happen and increase the scroll speed I can get the scroll to stay at the end of the song and wait a while to go next or wait for me to do it manually.
I have put down a wish list what we like to see in future versions of ST3 in an other post...
Regard Robert.
